My IVA was due to finish next month However it has just been extended by a further 12 months in in respect of unable to raise equity. Funny enough today I received a preferred application for a Vanquis credit card with the heading "start to rebuild your credit history" I was quite surprised these sign and return applications for acceptance is one of the reasons I ended up with debt in first place. Do you think Vanquis trawl the IVA register knowing your 5 years is up shortly. I know other people have spoken about these cards before it would be good to know if anyone else has received this application I filed mine in the bin!!!!!!

we've both had one from thm that have been shredded and had another today from capital one telling me that I am pre-approved! That also has been shredded. They must be desperate for customers if they're willing to offer us credit!!

I think they probably get the info from the voters list. Can't see them trawling the register.

I too have received a Vanquis application, having been specially selected apparently... but as I have only paid 11 months into my IVA it going to be a long time before I start to rebuild my credit file, application form has been carefully filed away!!

I have received a Priority Invitation from Vanquis application and we are only in the latter part of our second year! Telling me I’m pre selected with a starting credit limit between £150 and £1,000.

Very nice but no thank you, I’m concentrating on being debt free, with no more credit card statements falling on our mat and me stressing how am I going to pay them!

Filed in the BIN [:D]

It would be useful if one of the experts could give us some feedback

a. would we actually stand any chance of getting a using a credit card such as Vanquis

b. if it is used in a in a methodical way (small credit limit, small purchases such as groveries and paid of each month) wil this actually be a good first step in repairing credit history

I'm not an expert but surely it would depend on the terms of your IVA? Some state you can have credit up to a certain amount.

However I would be very surprised if anyone in an IVA was actually accepted by Vanquis even if it was acceptable.

It will be a good way to restart your credit rating but pointless when still in an IVA.

Several posters have managed to get accepted prior to discharge.

I didn't realise that Paul - was it recent? I know a few people who have been discharged from BR have been rejected for the card.

I had one of these offers through the door last week. Im still waiting for my completion certificate so don't know if I will get accepted or not.
I don't want credit ever again but would like to be able to get a mobile phone contract with vodafone and I think by taking one of these cards out it might rebuild my rating in order to do this.
Some expert or experienced advice would be much appreciated.

Skippy the application process does appear a little random, with some managing to gain acceptance prior to discharge and others being turned away, even after discharge, perhaps other things have prevented successful applications, its rather hard to tell.

I was accepted for a Vanquis card immediately after my last IVA payment and several months before i recieved my completion certificate.

Used in a sensible way and ensuring the balance is paid off each month must help improve you credit rating.

I received a vanquis card with a £750 limit before my completion certificate, GT said my iva could fail unless i destroyed the card and closed the account.

When i received my completion certificate i reaplied for a vanquis card but was turned down because i closed my account with them, you have to wait 6 months before applying for another card again.

Regards David.

Ditto, I too applied for and was accepted for a Vanquis card post final payment, but pre receipt of certificate. I pay mine off every month and my credit limit has just been increased for the 2nd time. Not that I need to use it.
