My OH has applied for a job abroad which would mean that myself and 3 children would have to relocate. I know it is possible to continue IVA payments abroad but I may not get work immediately and have childcare to consider.
It will mean a difference in our I&E which could affect our payments. My question is could creditors put a block on the move if they feel they are getting more from us in this country?
I'm just trying to weigh up pros and cons before decisions need to be made.

Creditors cannot stop you from going abroad but you should discuss this with your IP. If it will be beneficial in the long run to creditors they may sanction a break until your circumstances settle down. If possible a early settlement now could be the best option as it would allow the family to move on and creditors get paid.

Well, my non expert view on this - just go for it, you may owe creditors money but you don't owe them your life, so noone can or should put a stop to your trying to improve your prospects. When I tool out IVA I put a stop to my vacation in favour of a 'sensible' job which didn't work out anyway and I threw myself so far back, not just by 5-6 years but what can never be recovered in materialistic terms. I deeply regret it. I wish I never bothered with IVA and went bankrupt, to be honest. The shock of debt was too much at the time but looking back, I would have been better off by now, but that's just my circumstances

I don't want to feel it is ruling our lives. We know we have debt to settle and we do make sure we comply but this for my OH is a job which is written for him...once in a lifetime opportunity. It'll be more for job satisfaction than pay to be honest. I have nursing + midwifery qualifications so hopefully would gain employment at some point.
Obviously we'll speak to out IP when it is necessary but just wanted to see if anyone had any experiences of this or comments/thoughts on it.

How exciting Nitty!
I'm sure most people would jump at the chance to move abroad..i know I would!! Think of the life you and your children would have [8D]
I'm sure your IP would be able to advise on the best way forward and find something that suits both you and your creditors, especially as you are over half way through the IVA itself
Keep us posted! x

You could stick the red wine but a nice bottle of white would do for us!!

Harpic - you would travel all the way to Italy to drink "white wine" - mind you i am not fussy, will drink anything that got alcohol in it -
Mind you up here in Scotland there have agreed to introduce minimal pricing for alcohol(which means a bottle will go up in price)so will have to start ordering on line again.
