Hi everyone! This is my first post so bear with me...

I finished my IVA in September 2011 which was a great relief as I'm sure you'll appreciate and received a letter from my IP in October stating that I would receive the closing report within 3 months. It's now been 7 and no sign of my completion certificate or final statement.
I have emailed RSM Tenon (my IP) and called them numerous times to find out if there is any update regarding them closing cases due to the VAT issue regarding IVAs. It was only after I emailed that I was told about the VAT issues affecting closures and after calling for the umpteenth time today they still don't know how long my case will still be open.

I'm wondering if anyone out there is in the same boat and with the same IP and if they have been told any different. Tenon have told me that they've started closing cases with minimal VAT but mine isn't one of these... (hmmmmmm)

After so long all I want is to get on with my life as even though my financial obligations finished in September I can't move forward with clearing up my credit file and finally putting a line under that period of my life (rant over)

Hi Mat and welcome

Unfortunately there has been this problem regarding VAT and a lot of companies are delaying closure because of this.

Not a lot you can do about it I'm afraid.

If its not the VAT holding them up, the new on is looking into potential PPi claims. I hope you certificate of closure turns up soon, did you make a f&f or go to the end of the IVA?

Its really unpleasant living in this limbo land isnt it?!!

Hi there

I went full term - 60 months done! I hope the completion certificate and report turns up soon too. Limbo is not great and it's been 7 months so far...

Some firms - mine included - decided to close cases regardless of the VAT issue, and my claim to HMRC was submitted in September 2011 and I am told it is about to be repaid imminently. Other firms have taken a differing view - and if your firm have chosen not to close cases then there is nothing you can really do about it as this advice has been provided by the IPs own regulators.

Hi Pickerov. Welcome to the Forum. It does seem a very long wait for absolute closure, and I can total appreciate the feeling of being in limbo. Are they not able to give any indication as to how long yours will take? X
IVA journey started: 30th March 2009. Settled: 17th July 2012. Completion Certificate received: 13th March 2013. Breathe. x

Hi, I was with GT. They initially stopped closing cases due to the VAT issue then after a few weeks decided to recommence. My CC came yesterday. On my closure report to creditors there is a Supervisors Receipts & Payments Accounts Balance Sheet. VAT is listed @ £1,087.49 with an astrix by it. The footnote says '*VAT charged historically will be reviewed and dealt with appropriately in due course' I guess the decison to close or not to close is at the hands of the IP, but if some are still closing I can't see why others can't take the same stance.
IVA finished Oct 2011, CC received 27 April 2012, No longer on Insolvency Register 01 May 2012. Jan 2013 - all Credit Files squeaky clean :)

Thanks for the replies

They have told me after another call to call back later next month. I expressed my concern that the 6 year anniversary is now only 5 months away and that may come and pass without absolute closure! It seems that the advisors can't give a firm response as to even a expected date of closure. They also told me that those with a "low level of VAT" to claim are being processed but mine doesn't fit into "this category" (???)
