We've got curtains across the patio doors and the living room window but we can't have one in the hall as it's literally the width of the door so it couldn't be pulled back!

We pay £73 per month for gas and electric combined, but we are real misers, we put on jumpers and sit with a blanket over us as the central heating makes me all sniffly, we have a combi boiler and low energy light bulbs everywhere, I was really lucky as well as I fixed my energy prices till 2014 just before the rises this year.

Off hand I can't remember how much I pay but do know I won't be cold. I'm ecconomical and don't want to be hot but do want to be comfortable. We can't have cavity wall either as solid brick (1800's house).

Loft insulation a £ @ roll at the builders merchant at the minute so for anyone that hasn't got it not got the recommended depth, it's worth getting some as it may save a little. x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

My electric is £85 per month and oil is around £1600 per year plus wood for the log burner. However our house is on 3 floors, freezing at the top though and we have 5 bedrooms in use x

Hello DK !!
whose your energy Co ? EDF tried to put my monthly payment up, but their figures just didnt add up, so i challenged it and they kept my payment the same. they calculated based on last years usage and this years pricing how much my bills would be for the next 12 months. if I had increased my payments by the amount they wanted, then according to their own projections, I would have been 100s of pounds in credit in 12 months.

i thought to myself, if they gat 1 million customers to overpay by £300, then thats an extra £300m they will have in their bank !!

perhaps try and work the figures back yourself if you can; remember this time last year we had 3 weeks of the coldest weather in history, so for the last 2 months, you will almost certainly have used less fuel than last year I would have thought.

basically, i multiplied my current monthly payment by 12 and compared this to their projected cost; even the lady on their helpdesk ( which took 20 mins to get through ) was somewhat bemused as to how they had come to decide my monthly payments had to go up.

Good Luck

British gas tried to put our payments up and I refused and moved from paying by DD to a standing order that I control,as long as I pay enough to cover the bill all is well.

They are as bad as each other.

Discharged today the 8th feb 2012. View is much brighter now.
Continuing to rebuild our credit worthiness.

Similar story, was paying by DD, suddenly they had £100s of my money due to changing the amount using there super duper I can work out how much you should pay computer program, then had to pay me it back as was so much, then changed the payment amount to a stupid lower amount, next year I owed then £100s, and then of course they demanded the whole lot in one go, got fed up of it and went on an account were I provide my meter reading every month and that's exactly what I pay.

Neither they or me ever have a credit.
