Hi all,I have just got off the phone from an IVA advisor, and i feel a massive sence of releaf already, hopefully the iva will be accepted and I can get back on track. Years of overspending have been my downfall, even though i have earnt decent money! The thought of not paying all of the interest on my credit cards would be fantastic, fingers crossed.
Good luck to everyone and thanks for this site it does help steve

We are all guilty of overspending for a variety of reasons but you should be proud that you have decided to take control now and sort out the problem. It is a lovely feeling when your IVA is approved and I wish loads of luck.
Hi and welcome to the forum.
Well done on making that first call, that was for me probably the hardest part.
Good luck on your journey to becoming debt free.
Counting down the days to being debt free even though it is still early days for me

IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.
Steve, I've never heard of them before and I'm not overly impressed with what I have read on their website.
I would recommend speaking to one or more companies before making a final decision.
Visit www.iva.com for a list of companies and reviews and give one or two a ring for some free advice.
You could also speak to one or more of the professionals that post on here and whose contact details can be found via the 'Ask a Quesion' link on the left hand side of the page.

no i haven't. some firms act as a sort of agent & refer you onto a IP firm but they charge you for this.
you shouldn't pay ANY up front fees. we went with Melanie Giles, she has a good reputation & posts here.
other IP's who post here include McCambridge Duffy,Grant Thornton,Payplan etc.
there's a link someone will post here for you that takes you to a comparrison site with feedback on different IP's/IP firms.
if going ahead you need a new basic bank account, away from creditors. we are with Co Op - very good.
post any concerns,people are friendly.[:)]
Nothing stays the same...everything changes..hang on in there!
Hi Steve - I certainly echo Jan's advice. Take a look at the website Jan has mentioned. I took the advice of the forum and rang 2 and went with who I felt comfortable with.
We didn't pay a penny upfront and are very happy with the IVA so far.
To be honest with you, now you have taken the 1st step, it's best to take your time and go with a reputable firm who will support you over the next 5 years.
And as rosepetal says, you need to open a new account if you have debts with your current bank. Please don't open one with HSBC or First Direct as they close accounts as soon as they are aware that an IVA is in place (even if you do not have any debts with them).
Thanks all, I will open a new account tommorow or could i pay into my wifes account? also would my wifes loan be partofmy iva as i pay it, we tok it out to pay off 1 of the creit cards
Only if it is in joint names Steve. If in your wifes name then no it can't be included.
Does she have any other debt? Both me and my OH are in an interlocking IVA. Originally he wasn't going to bother, however we were advised he should consider it and we are really pleased we did this now as in 4 1/2 years it will all be over and done with.
Forgot about the account question in my reply above! You could have money paid into your wifes account, but it may make life easier to open a basic account yourself, as it will be easier sending in statements for review if your IP requested them and identifying your income etc.
