If you're on the electoral roll there shouldn't be a problem. I would go into your branch with all the ID you can find - anything with your name and address on and insist on speaking to someone who can help you sort it out.
I've not heard of Nationwide closing accounts but you could also consider Barclays as they are quite sympathetic to IVA's.

It seems like the simplest of things have something that holds up progress lately.
Took pretty much all the things i had into the branch on Sat morning, but there was only a couple of staff working so didn't get very far. The lady on the phone was actually more help and I've asked the post office about adding my address to the database so at least the banks can find it.
By the time I get this sorted I expect I'll moved anyway and the new address does appear on a postcode search.
I'd go back in tomorrow with all your stuff and insist on sitting down and talking with someone.

Hi DJW
I also three counts with Nationwide also, same as you. I am a little further down the line than you. Mr creditors meeting is tomorrow. I did receive three phone calls from Nationwide, one after the other for each of my accounts with them. Automated phone calls with various options ie you can set up a payment plan, make payment or speak to an adviser. I spoke to the adviser told them what I was doing ( IVA) and no more phone calls. They were very polite. All my Nationwide accounts were frozen, so make sure that if you have money in these accounts, move it to the Coop or other bank that is not a creditor, before the signed proposal forms are sent out. let us know how you progress and I will let you know how Nationwide voted tomorrow, Rich x

Best of luck tomorrow Rich, I'll be interested to know how you get on.
Jan, I would go back in if i could but will be at work and the nearest branch is 30 miles from me, i'll have to wait till the weekend. What I have found out is that I can take my id to a Britannia Building Society as they're now part of the Co-op and there's a branch nearby
I have had a co op account for almost 3 years and havent been anywhere near a branch!! My debit card runs out soon, anyone know what they are issuing nowadays to us bad people??
Paul
Discharged today the 8th feb 2012. View is much brighter now.
Continuing to rebuild our credit worthiness.
Hi Paul -- my Co-op card, recently issued, is branded Visa Debit, but still has the electron numbering. However I have used it everywhere I used to use my old halifax debit card with no problems. Not used it at a PAYG petrol pump yet though.
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.
IVA Completed 23rd July 2013 .... C.C. 10th January 2014
My Nationwide account has recently issued debit cards which I assume are similar to the Co-op ones and I've used that at pay at pump with no problem.

Hi - just opened my Co-op account after telling them I was entering an IVa and I got a visa debit card. The Co-op are going to be zooming up the banking charts I think with the number of people in financial difficulties. They have been extreemely helpful on the phone with advice about opening a couple of savings accounts for the contingency fund etc.
I found the Co-op were excellent when I was BR. The only time I had to go into a branch was when I had to produce ID to open the account and after that I used the Post Office and their telephone and internet banking.
Hi DJW, We applied for our co-op account(current A/C) before our IVA went through. I did it all on line.
We have not got any overdraft even though its been offered a few times!
Touch wood we've had no problems to date. I know some people who have applied to the co-op have had a more basic account but i dony know why.
good luck

It's probably because your credit rating wasn't too bad at that point baldy. If it's still ok they will offer a full current account rather than the basic Cashminder.
You have chosen an excellent IP. Melanie was our IP too.
We also had Nationwide as a creditor. Before the IVA was set up they did go through their collections procedure, but were never nasty or anything. In fact they were quite helpful.
And they also voted in favour of our IVA
Melanie will be the one who can answer any specific queries you have about any creditors, and I'm sure with Melanie's help you will be putting forward a proposal that will be approved.
Have faith in Melanie - she is the best in the business in my humble opinion.
Also, I now have an account with Co-op even though there are no branches where I live. I lodge cash through the Post Office.

Started lump sum IVA in Aug 2010 - received certificate of completion April 2011, thanks to Melanie & team
Hi there - I am delighted that you have chosen my firm to represent you - and don't worry about Nationwide. They are one of the most supportive creditors out there right now, and very commercial. If you are putting your best offer on the table, then there should be no need to worry about a thing.
