Just when we thought our lives were back on track something jumps up n bites us on the bum!!!
Our eldest daughter has at last come home from hospital following her brain haemorrhage but is gonna need a lot of help and support long term. Her and her 2 young children have moved in with us until a more suitable rental property can be found.
I have had to get a sick note for work but there is a real possibility that I may need to stop work to support her which means we would be unable to maintain our IVA payments.
Also got a letter yesterday saying our 4 weekly child tax credit of £38 was not being renewed due to new government threshold.
One good bit of news though is that we have survived another month in our budget - hubby gets paid weds n there is £81 left in the bank [8D]

Hi Julie,

Glad your daughter is home and I am sure she will get the help and support she needs from you.

Take this time to look at your options and keep your IP in the loop. Hopefully you can continue with your IVA but I am sure your IP will help you if there are any problems.

Hi Julie - what a way to start! You can only take each day as it comes at the moment and don't expect to have all the answers just yet. Keeping your IP informed along the way will be an enormous help as they can support you with reduced payments, payments breaks etc. One poster recently had her payment reduced to compensate for the lost CTC. I know that's the least of your worries but it is a simple one to tick off the list so you can concentrate on helping your daughter's recovery. x

Julie - have a look at the Gov direct website - you may find that you can claim for certain carer allowance etc - including help with heating/washing etc.

As we dont know the full extend of your daughter health -i can not advise to more individually - you may have to do a little bit of digging around

Best wishes

My neighbour, who has an autistic son, claims all sorts including a motability car.

The Directgov site is worth visiting.

What an awful start for you I am glad that your daughter has you to turn to. You must have a look around and get all the help that you need also inform your IP and see what they can advise. Well done for sticking to your budget and having some left over.
Wishing your daughter a speedy recovery.

Thinking of you julie, what a nasty start to your debt free road,
I hope your daughter recovers well and like everyone else has said look into what benefits you might be able to claim.

Thank you all so much - this forum is such a support x We are in the process of claiming ESA and DLA for her and just taking each day at a time. Unfortunately for my daughter she has already suffered 2 brain tumours when she was younger so this latest development has come as a massive shock to us all.
We are going to speak to our IP on Monday just to put them in the picture but as it stands whilst I am off sick I will get 2 months at full pay from my job and then 2 months at half pay. It looks like hubby will get a bit of a pay rise in May so hopefully our IVA will be ok for the next couple of months at least.
Thank you all again and have a good weekend xx

Hi Julie,

Sorry to hear about your daughter. Make sure you fill out the DLA form with her as fully as possible. Don't scrimp on the detail provided. We all like to pretend we can cope with our disabilities but you must put as much information down as possible. Also with DLA and ESA, a lot of people are being turned down but winning on appeal (yes - I work for DWP!)

I don't know what you do for a job but is there any way you can work from home or change your hours to fit around your OH's job?

Good luck and keep us posted on how things go.
x

Hi Julie - it sounds like there's a lot of financial support out there to help your family. Hopefully the benefits, hubby's pay increase and a bit of flexibility in your iva will put you back on an even keel...leaving you to spend your time with your daughter and grandkids. Mums are wonderful and your constant support will mean so much to them xx

You can always take a payment break if needs be - I'm sure your IP will be sympathetic.

Hope your daughter is fighting fit again soon and that you manage to get all of your allowances sorted.
