My car insurance isn't due for a couple of months yet, but I'm worried! I've got approximately 13 years no claims, but my current insurance policy with the Co-Op only shows 5 years, as that is their maximum. I know other insurers will accept more (and will obviously want proof), so does anyone have any advice on how I can prove this?

I stupidly sent my original proof of no claims to the Co-op without keeping a copy so I'm not sure what to do. Has anyone else had this problem?

Can't say I have Skip. I always put down the amount I know I have into the search engine and when I have changed just sent off the letter from the old insurance company.

You could always ask the Co-op to return it to you.

Wait for your renewal form to come through - it should have your no claims discount on this. Sorry - to ask! are you sure it is not 5years +(or more than 5 years)

Not all insurance firms require prove - as they can access the car insurance data base
(the same one the police can check)!

I know that I have more but my last insurance company have given me a letter stating that I have eleven years NCB.

I'm quite happy with that.

tbh it wouldnt matter wether you had 5 or 11 years, the discount would be about the same anyway

Hi Skippy. This is my area of expertise as I worked in Motor Claims for 6 years with Tesco/Direct Line [:D]

As for No Claims once you get to 5 years it makes no difference how much you as the maximum discount is given by insurers once you reach the magic 5 years.

As for a new quote shop around as normal and when they ask for proof you may be able to send the quote through from current insurer as it should list your No Claims.

Failing that a phone call to your current insurer for them to issue you with No Claims proof should suffice. If worst comes to worst the Sales department of your new insurer if they have anything about them will just call your old insurer and get them to verbally confirm it (We used to do it all the time.)
