Thanks Ginnyfizz! I have had a complete nightmare with it all but I am trying to push on and get this all sorted! That letter is amazing, will definitely use it and will send them recorded delivery too, as the other post suggests! Credit Expert have been great!! Totally agree with you.

Thanks Ginger! We don't have shared accounts so that's a weight off my mind. I will speak with Reeds Rains. I have £1500 saved since completing whilst paying back my mum the F&F amount she offered so we could in theory put 3/4 months down if that would help.... just have to grin and bear the embarrassment!!!

I am on the electoral roll and I have my Santandar account which is perfectly maintained plus my phone contract which is also perfect. Does Sky count? As I have that too which has never defaulted in 7 years plus

Sorry forgot to ask, is my completion date the F&F meeting date or the date that is on the COC under the IP's signature? Xx

OK where do I start...

Absolutly you have the legal right to have your credit file amended if it is not acurate. The Data Protection Act 1998 gives 8 principles. Principle 4 states...

"Personal data shall be accurate and, where necessary, kept up to date"

You have informed the data controller, if they fail to act they are in breach of the act.

In my opinion 90 days is an excessive amount of time for them to act. 30 days is long enough. My suggestion now would be to send a second letter, referencing the first letter telling them they are in breach of the data protection act, principle 4 and if you have not heard back from them within 30 days you will have no alternative but to pass on the details to the information commissioner.

If they have not acted, and removed, updated your details to reflect acurate data within a reasonable amount of time. CARRY OUT THIS THREAT and write to the Information Commissioner (Details on ico.gov.uk) Include all copies of all correspondence and ask them to make the creditor act under the DPA.

The ico does have teeth, they can impose fines of up to half a million pound for breaches to the act. I suspect the creditors concerned are playing for time, and have seen the same standard letters before and think they are messing with someone who does not know their rights.
We're willing to wipe the slate clean, give you a fresh start. All that we're asking in return is your cooperation.

Your completion date is the date on the COC under the IP's signature.

How a potential lender assesses your score is something of a mystery. I have a perfectly maintained Co-op bank account, mobile phone and landline contract, but my lack of current credit was a factor for Ford Credit declining me.

Unfortunately, as I have discovered to my cost, it is not wise to make a number of applications for credit in a short time, as that affects your credit score. Because I have been searched four times in six months, my credit score has been walloped by 35 points. Luckily it is still fair rather than poor, but it does mean that I now have to wait six months to try again. On the plus side, by October all my defaults should drop off, assuming that my creditors do as they are told!

On the subject of the Vanquis card, I just took this from a review on the net;-

"and although it said it would give you an instant desicion, it came back and said they would get back to me. I just assumed that I wasn't getting 1, and felt a bit embarrasssed as I thought Vanquis basically accepted anyone. A couple of weeks later I got a call from vanquis to say that they were offering me a card, and the limit would start at £500"

Sounds like actually everyone does get referred.

I just had a call to say I have been approved by Vanquis, although I do not know my credit limit yet.

I hear they start off low and increase the limit over time, just make sure you pay it off in full at the end of the month to avoid paying interest.

Good news Ginnyfizz, as TheMatrix says, remember to pay it off in full -- it is only a credit builder tool :0)
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.

Great news Ginnyfizz - I agree with the above advice. Make sure you pay it off monthly.

Extra! Extra! NatWest caved in immediately on receipt of the letter I wrote in accordance with the template supplied by TheMatrix and have amended the default date with both Equifax and Experian. Credit Account Management have marked their debt as satisfied.

Barclays aka Clydesdale are marked as satisfied but there is the wrong default date on Experian yet the right one with Equifax!!! Experian are after them on that.

Only NatWest Credit card to go yet, not marked as satisfied, and they are supposed to be doing it at the end of this month.

That's grand news, most will do a update at the end of the month so nothing to worry about there, just check it at the start of the month and make sure it is done as they say they have done.

As everything is in writing, they cannot backtrack :-)
