Good for you. If he has offered £2k without too much pain, there is bound to be more behind it. The art of negotiation can be quite rewarding, and you have nothing to lose by holding out for more.
Quite agree Mel - let's hope the CAB and/or solicitor can help further,

Update about meeting with solicitor. All I can say is that I am £120 lighter in pocket and none the wiser. Possibly able to argue beneficial interest but that will cost me a fortune in solicitors fees. Ex partner appears very desperate to get me out as he emails me daily stating that he agrees to all my proposed terms and will I be moving out quickly. I am suspecting that to evict me or apply for a court order will take time and cost a bit hence why he is so eager. Still nowhere on the accomodation front though!
As he has agreed to all of your proposed terms ( do get it in writing ) tell him that you will be able to move out only once you have secured alternative ( and suitable) accomodation for yourself and the cat. If he can help in this endeavour he will get the property back faster.
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.
IVA Completed 23rd July 2013 .... C.C. 10th January 2014
He wont agree to the money unless I confirm the date I will be moving out. So is a stalemate at the moment. I can tolerate that though as it should keep him sweating for a couple of days until solicitor drafts the letter. Have got one place to look on Friday that will take a cat so fingers crossed via private landlord
Tell him that you are struggling to find somewhere to accomodate you and your puss cat, and that if he can assist you it might speed things along. Tell him you are not prepared to just move in anywhere, as you have enjoyed a reasonable standard of living over the last 15 years and see no reason why you should be forced to give that up. It strikes me that you seem to have him by the S&Cs - so take advantage of that, strike while the iron is hot, and see just how far he is prepared to go to see you relocate.
I think if you could come back to him with something solid - ie "I have found a property, but they want six months rent up front and it is going to cost you £5,000" then he can make his own choice as to whether he would rather spend that money on helping you or spend it on solicitors and Court costs - after all you have nothing to lose. So get round every letting agent in town to see what you can do.
Hi Beaumont - I can't stop smiling knowing the balance of power is shifting in your direction. Find the perfect property and then march him down to the letting agent to put his money where his mouth is. You get the money and he gets the moving date in one swoop.
Beaumont it does all seem to be going your way at the moment - I hope the place is ok on Friday.
I agree totally with what Mel has said.

Thank you for the positive messages. I have requested that as he is so eager for me to move he should consider raising his initial lump sum figure and suggest any properties that he feels would be appropriate. I have also set out list of possessions I will be taking which is most things actually. Hopefully solicitor is drafting letter up today.
I live in hampshire.
I think you're doing really well here fighting him at his own game. I reckon he will stump up the cash and let you take the property, especially if you have bought it.
Good luck with the viewing tomorrow - let us know how it goes.

I remember when I first went into the IVA I thought that was stressful enough. I hope that if I get through this I will come out the other side a much stronger happier person!
I am sure you will and your friends on here are all behind you!

Apologies for the delay. Have been waring with solicitors. Ex wont stump up more cash but he has agreed that if I move out and have left on 28th Feb he will give me £2k which he confirmed with another horrid solicitor letter. However I can take whatever possessions I want and that the only condition is that I have left by 4pm. More fool him I say. Am in process of securing my next property and hopefully with the money that I should receive I wont need a payment break from my IVA. So fingers crossed. Am also going to write a letter of complaint to exs solicitor as have found the letters very threatening in tone and quite unnecessary!
