I agree Jan, keeping a roof over my head and food on the table would come first every time for me.

I agree as well. I am not religious either, i like Kallis do weddings etc, but to some people the church is their life and family and as such the most important part of their lives.

Cheers......Howard

From my experience some fundamentalist churches may be this strict, but personally I find it is the individual who takes things literally and not the Church. Be a little kinder to yourself, and if you do still feel obliged to tithe then make it 10% of your disposable income.
Never take a moment or a loved one for granted in the blink of an eye they may be lost forever.

It may be their life, but unfortunately when you are deep in debt you cannot afford to be paying across 10% of your salary.

Make a donation by all means, just make it a lot less!

My donation to the church consists of the monthly jumble sale and the summer plant sales-so both parties are receiving.
The church is there to support you in your time of need-not add to your list of debts to pay.
The lord will still love you rich or poor and charity does begin at home.
Nobody should have to buy there way into heaven.
full and final accepted January 2015

iva agreed; August 2010
iva would have completed; August 2017
extra year thank's to NRAM

andrea that is so true.

I think 10% is a lot to ask for, even if you aren't struggling that much.

Even if I were religious I wouldn't be paying that much across to the church. I would be helping out in other ways as Andrea does.

Each to their own. 10% of your DI will hardly be missed. Remember we are paying 100% of our DI at the moment and managing to live

If you are deep in debt thought then even 10% of your DI could be the straw that broke the camels back.

No wonder the church is as rich as it is!!

Totally agree with the "can't/shouldn't try to buy your way to heaven"

Personally i don't believe in any of it (which makes 10% even madder in my eyes) but that's another story!
