Hi all,i recieved a letter today from a debt collection company chasing a debt from 11 years ago!
We have moved house twice since then and must have forgot to tell them. The debt is only a couple of hundred pounds to a catalogue company but obviously being in an IVA i cant really pay it.
The letter states they are experts in doostep recovery[:0]
Not sure what to do.

Hi and welcome.

Have a word with your IP about this, it may be they can get it included.

As long as they are willing to wait I suppose it would be ok.

Surely, if no payment or acknowledgement has been made in the last 6 years, this debt is statute-barred and can no longer be enforced.

That'll teach me to pay more attention rather than half watching My Big Fat Gypsy wedding!

You're right - if there has been no acknowledgement of the debt then it will be statute barred.

If the debt is that old and there has been no contact between you and debtor for over 6 years then the debt becomes statute barred and technically is unenforceable.
However if you wish to aknowledge this debt and pay it if your F&F is accepted then that would be fine.

Just because the debt is statute barred doesn't mean that it isn't rightfully payable. If the oversight was a genuine mistake, and you want to do the right thing, I would calculate a payment based on the dividend being paid to other creditors in the IVA and send this to them. They are rightfully bound by the terms of your IVA, but personally I would not disturb the conclusion of that process unecessarily.
