Dont even know where to start, I am already in an IVA, everything running absolutely great. Nothing to do with IP more OH really. As in a previous post explained how things had come to a head late last year when he explained that his finances were in a complete mess, kept this all from me which I can understand totally. To keep it brief he has used the money that was supposed to pay for the council tax to try and sort out the many payday loans that he had, only found out by accident that he hadnt paid it and was hoping to sort it out. Now I know that this can be included in an IVA, but the council tax is in my name so dont really know where we stand with this, would really appreciate some advice, I have spoken to the council tax people and I am having to make payment of £100 extra per month, which is obviously a huge chunk out of the finances. Any help would be appreciated.
How are you managing to deal with the Council Tax arrears when you are already in an IVA? And why were these not picked up and included in your IVA when it was first put forward?
Your IP may be able to arrange a reduction in your payments to accomodate these additional charges, but if the arrears are pre-IVA then the debt needs to be included into the IVA. Make sure you alert your IP to this and seek their advice.
Thanks Mel, I knew nothing of the arears until my OH informed me, he is seeking an IVA himself now, even though the council tax is in my name, can it be included in his IVA?
Hi, the areas are in your name and as such I believe they will be your responsibility and need to be dealt with by your iva. How you deal with your boyfriend is another matter!!! Best of luck x
If he is not named as being responsible for the Council Tax in the eyes of the Council and your electoral roll, then I am afraid you are stuck with it.
I think you need to speak to your IP about this now as the debt is obviously in your name.

I'll bet it did! Hopefully you can get through this. Let us know what your IP says.

Debts make people desperate and they do crazy things, particularly while theyre in the it'll-be-alright phase. Try not to stay mad for too long. He must have been incredibly embarrassed to have to 'fees up!!
It was the same for us only the other way round - I was the one who'd kept hubby in the dark!

Both me and the wife had our little "secret" debt worries, both thought we could ride it out to better times. Matters came to a head when a £7k pay rise I was due didn't happen (Thank you Messrs Brown, Clegg & Cameron) and we had a "mutual 'fess up session". To be honest it was cathartic! Little tensions gone, aided by the relative peace of the protection now afforded by the IVA, and everything is looking rosier.
We are coming to the end of our first "proper" month in IVA ( about to make the second payment) and, for the first time in years, there is money left in our account !!!!

There was only me who kept things from hubby. He believed me when I said everything was ok.
It wasn't pleasant when it came to a head, but we got through it fortunately.
