Hi just wanted to know if i could get a phone on a small contract for our daughter.(Grandparents have offered to pay for a small amount around £15 pm)
We are in an IVA, and i also have an o2 contract which ive had for years.

Do they all do credit checks? Are we allowed to apply?
many thanks

Baldy

Hi - I've also been with O2 for yonks so haven't had to get a contract while in an iva. I did have to cancel one contract and start a new one when I got my iPhone a few months ago because the tariff changed and had no probs - don't think they credit checked me. You could try O2 again. Have you thought about pay as you go for your daughter?

You might be ok as you're an O2 customer already, I've not been credit checked yet when my phone comes up for renewal.

T Mobile are supposed to be good with contracts for people in IVAs.

What tarriff is that on, Andrea ? I am with voda at the moment ( contract up in June ) £15 (inc vat) for 500 texts and 100 minutes. Trouble is, with my landline (Sky) giving me free anytime calls, I never use more than 20 minutes on the mobile and maybe 25 texts per month!
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.

have you tried the O2 simplicity as you are already with O2? we have this for our daughter as it is unlimited calls and 100 minutes per month for £10 which suits her fine, you are tied in for 12 months though, I'm not sure if you would have to be credit checked again as you already a customer?

I forgot to add, that this is a sim only contract though, but maybe better to do it that way and then just buy your daughter a cheapish phone? I got my daughter an LG one from Tesco for only £10

Some posters have tried to O2 rolling contract and been turned down for it. Not sure what would happen if you are already a customer though.

The problem with taking out a contract in your name for your daughter is that if she goes over the allowed minutes / texts you will be liable for any charges. I would have thought that PAYG would be better for her, and there are some pretty good deals around now.

Our daughter had PAYG until she could afford to pay for her own contract.

Just swapped over to Virgin PAYG - if you kids text a lot - credit £10 per month and you get 300 texts

Just depends what they plan to use them for

My daughter has payg sim and unlimited internet and unlimited texts and only has to put £15 on a month which is retained for calls, works good for her x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

My daughter was originally on PAYG but I got sick of her using up all her credit within a couple of days and then expecting me to put more on her phone so I just got her the sim which she never goes over now. I keep track of the minutes she uses during the month and tell her she can text to her heart's content

Hi both my son and daughter are with 3, we pay £15.00 per month and we have capped their calls - their entilement is 500 mins, 500 texts and 3,000 3 to 3 calls but when they have used all this up they can't make anymore calls only receive them - thus ensuring they never go over the £15.00
