I have been newly diagnosed with breast cancer and am recovering from surgery and will be undergoing treatment which will last at least six months. I don't know yet what will happen about work but I think I get paid for 5 or 6 months. I am not married. My IVA is due to complete October 2011. I have paid it for 5 years but iva was extended to 6 years following a variation in year one.Should I be contacting my IVA company to let them know I'm ill? Any advice please.
I would, seeing as your into your 6th year, might be worth pursuing if your IP could arrange for it to be ended early. Im guessing the variation is due to unable to remortage? Its always worth talking to your IP, last thing you want is 5 months later and no sick pay, and having to tell your IP in retrospec.
On another note, hope your treatment goes well and you have a swift recovery, these things can really knock you about, best wishes
I'm so sorry to hear that. What a terrible time of the year - I imagine that the IVA is the last thing you want to worry about.
I would certainly contact your IVA company as soon as possible and let them do the thinking for you. I am absolutely sure that they will suggest a variation for your creditors to accept funds paid to date as full settlement of the IVA.
Creditors are not heartless and unless the dividend is very low I'm sure that they will accept.
Best of luck, and please let us know how your conversation with your IVA company goes.
Hi cxxx. I can offer no more advice than the wise words of antm and Liam above, but wanted to pop on and wish you the best of luck with the IVA and with the breast cancer. These things can really knock you sideways, but things will improve. xx
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.
IVA Completed 23rd July 2013 .... C.C. 10th January 2014
hi cxx same here just wanted to wish you the best of luck with your treatment,i would have thought that your ip could help you to conclude your iva early under your circumstances, worth giving them a ring,
The finalisation of your IVA is very likely to be on the basis of payments you have made to date, if you cannot continue to fund your payments due to ill health. In the great big scheme of things this is not that important, and your treatment followed by your return to full health is the most important thing to consider right now. You should inform your IP of the situation, however, so that they are in the loop.
Sending you my very best wishes for a tough time, but lots to look forward to in the future.
I echo the above and wish you a full return to health soon.

Thanks for all your good wishes. Haven't yet contacted DFD as haven't been well and its takes ages to get through to dfd and then you end up speaking to a customer support person who is not the person I want to explain my situation to. Not sure how I get to speak to my actual IP. Unfortunately I am going back into hospital next week for more surgery. Do think I should write a letter, if so who do I address it to?
I would address it to your IP directly, the Find an IP section of the website where the contact details were held was down the other week but unsure if it's been repaired as yet.
All the best with your next hospital visit xx
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.
I can only echo what everyone else has said.
So so sorry to hear of your situation and i think your IP would be more than willing to ask your creditors to agree to finalise your IVA on payments made to date.
Your recovery is so much more important than your debts and at this stage in your IVA i think your creditors would also agree.
Wishing you the very best for a speedy recovery xxxx
Totally agree with Lisa, you and your health are the most important things here.

So sorry to hear your having to go into hospital again, is it worth emailing your IP rather than risking the post. I hope this all gets sorted out for you,
