I think it's a fab idea, I attend dog training twice a week and train my dogs everyday. I used to show but sadly can't anymore due to costs etc, but one day I'll be back in the ring.
German Shepherds love to learn so you've an ideal dog to train. x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.
I'm really trying to get my hubby to take ours to dog training Lesley - but his is not keen. Usual thing - he's a man and he knows best. If you get a moment could you e-mail me off line to give me a few details of what you actually do and from what age yours started - I feel some gentle nagging is needed in the Giles household, although I have to admit he is very good with them and like you spends a lot of time doing one to one training at the moment.
My dog is with Argos they offer a really good deal, having a dog especially in an IVA is the best thing ever! Coming home to their wagging tail is just what you need when you have had a stressful day!
my two dogs are 10 year old border collies-so we managed to get monthly vet fees pet insurance and dog food included.I think my ip is a dog lover because we managed to keep all the above.Makes sense really cos a visit to the vet through illness or injury would cost a good few missed payments into the iva if not covered!!

One thing I would say is to make sure you factor in the cost of things like vaccinations, and trips to the vets that might not be covered by pet insurance.
I had to take Harry (I know he's a cat but same principle!) to the vets a few months ago and there was no point in me claiming on the insurance. Part of the bill was for prescription food, which wasn't covered, and by the time I'd deducted that and the excess I would have got £25 back, so it wasn't worth it.
Our vet lets us spread the cost of vaccinations worming flea treatment and check-ups over 12 months at 10.00 each dog a month.Looks a lot better on the expenditure as well!!

Ours are spread out over a few months so we don't have to shell out for vaccinations etc all at once. Never bother with the worming or flea treatments though - they haven't got any!

We rarely flea Harry, and do it more in the summer. I do like to keep him wormed (and I'd be the same with a dog) as I know animals have a tendancy to drink dirty water. He's never had worms or fleas, but I like to try and prevent it!
One thing our dogs don't do is drink dirty water when they're out - our normal walk they don't need any and if we go further afield then we take water with us. Check their poo periodically as well just to make sure.
I've only ever had one dog that had fleas, and they were from when he staying in kennels.
