Hello again

well after my major stress and headache last night I am a little more chilled this morning. Still waiting for my car to be looked at but in the meantime, onwards and upwards.

We have opened 2 new accounts unrelated to our creditors, one being the coop cashminder which we are going to use as a savings account for contingencies, the other a Lloyds TSB classic account, now this one was opened online initially in my hubby's name (you can't open joint accounts with them online), when all the details came through, they have given him a cheque book which is great. We have called up to now change the account to a joint account to add me on but we have to do this together in branch, the earliest we could both go in together is this Friday. however, since we opened the account I have missed a couple of payments to creditors which I am sure will now show up on my credit file. Do you know if Lloyds will credit check me in branch? I will be mortified if I have to face the humiliation of being rejected!!!, they have only asked for me to bring in a few pieces of ID.

Hi Lem,

I've no idea if they do that or not, but you might be ok. Hopefully someone else who has been in the same position may be able to answer.

The llyods basic bank account they won't, but I believe thats just a cash card which you can only use in their cash machines! Which is why I opted to open a natwest step account!

I used Smile for my bank, a full current account (but not the enhanced Smilemore account). I was told by my IP it was fine as long as I didn't have an overdraft facility. I asked smile to remove it, which they did. Smile have been really positive towards my IVA and have offered to help rebuild my credit history now my IVA is over.
Id rather hang myself than go anywhere near LLoyds TSB.

well natwest we can't use as they are one of our creditors, the Lloyds account he has opened has a visa debit card and cheque book but we asked for no overdraft so this should be fine, just woondering as I am going to be added to it if they are going to credit check me or just do an identity check?

Sounds to me like a current account. If so, they will do a credit check

I opened my account with lloyds before my IVA but after defaulting on a few payments. They still gave me an account! Things may have changed since 2005 but you might be ok.

Fingers crossed!

My understanding is the Lloyds Classic account is a normal current account. As you simply want to add another name to the account, I do not think you will have a problem with this.

I opened a Lloyds classic account in early 2009 at a time when debt collection letters were dropping n my doormat daily. I went into branch with my cheeks burning with shame, they credit checked me and offered me the account with £800 overdraft. So you should be fine with only a couple of defaults.

Hopefully it'll be fine for you Lem, go in on Friday and just get it over with, at the end of the day the worse they can say is 'no'. However, I'm sure you'll be fine. x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.
