I thought that budgeting was the way to go, surely pay as you go is cheaper than a contract that could be anything from £15 a month to £45 plus, i budget my pay as you go, between £10 /£20, only using it when absolutly no other way of communicating, i try and allways have a fiver on it case of emergency. my phone is two years old, but it still works, probably save for a new model in the debt free climate i'm making for myself, in yrs to come. but how proud i will be.

Not necessarily. I've always had a contract, which is budgeted for in my IVA.

I have a set amount of minutes and texts (never use all of them) and also internet access.

I don't have to worry about running out of credit.

Give me a contract and a top of the range phone anytime.

Must admit my mobile allowance is generous when compared to everything else i have a £40 tariff, which i use a chunk for work calls, i never expected to get it included but as i had this when i started my iva im guessing it was built in to the first proposal. Im also with o2 and im on my second iphone, iphone 4 next year!! or 5!

I should add, i don't have a BT homeline, i just have a media connection for my internet.

Same with me. Same tariff and I can upgrade next year. I'll probably get the iphone next.

oops didn't see he'd got contract sorry.

I am with TM too, I got a new phone and contract a few months back, I pay 15 a month and I get 300min 300text and flex booster which is texts. We have about four people who only have mobiles not landlines and so now we ring them from my mobile instead of the landline so it saves on cost there. I was already putting 10-15 on my mobile anyway just for PAYG for texts, hardly used it to phone anyone.

Am so pleased I changed as I get far more out of it that I used to.

We've our landline with Sky and pay extra for anytime calls. As hubby is home all day he does tend to use it a lot and he has no mobile and doesn't want one.

If we need to phone a mobile we use mine.

I had PAYG once and it can be a lot more expensive than a contract and I would never go back to it. I was worried that I would lose my contract when I went BR, but luckily I didn't. Dave was going to take a contract in his name for me if I had.

I'm hoping to get the iPhone next year, although having read the reviews of the Samsung Galaxy I'm now undecided! A lot will come down to cost as I know Vodafone will charge me for whichever one I want as I'm on a low tariff.

I meant to add that we have our landline with Sky, and we pay £5 a month which covers all calls, apart from 0870 etc.

We saved quite a bit switching to Sky!

We're in the unlucky position of being in Hull with Kingston Communications. They basically have a monopoly on who we can go with. As in only them. They supposedly did open it up to other companies but the charge is so high for other providers that they haven't done much.

we pay a set figure of £21 a month and get all 01 02 08 numbers, anytime for any length of time and then 180min weekend mobile calls. Plus 15 free texts and free directory enquiries. So we do get a lot for our money. Internet is seperate costs.

Our problem was phoning mobiles during the week as we both have a close friend who only have a mobile. Our bill this week came in at £63 instead of the £80-£100 it has been for the last 5 years. This is actually the lowest bill we've had in about ten years. quite chuffed.

Oftel have finally given KC the go ahead to offer bundles for phone/mobile/broadband so we will see very soon just what prices they are going to charge.

Mobile phone I was on contract for 3 years before changing to PAYG for 8 years and have now gone back to contract, mainly because I wanted more for my money and its worked. I'm not paying any more a month than i was and am getting laods more.

I must admit that I would be horrified if I had a phone bill that high!

Is that quarterly?

Yes Jan its quartly.

We are charged £21 a month for the talk plan we are on (KC do 4 plans) because all our family live away from us and are STD numbers it means that we were put on the higher plan. I don't mind though cos I can call our H and be on the phone 2.5 hours and not have to redial after an hour...which I know with BT and TalkTalk you have to. We pay 31 currently per month on our DD. As said, this quarter is the lowest its been for donkey's years.

I've also added a Blackberry to my list of possibles!

I'll probably go for a 24 month contract this time, and then look to leave Vodafone as my BR will have dropped off my credit file when it's over.
