I have to say I agree with Jan, I really don't think it'll do any good.

We also have to remember that at the end of the day it's down to the banks who they deal with. I'm not saying it's right, but a business (which is what they are) doesn't have to deal with clients it doesn't want to.

Oh we all know that lol. But for me it is about clarifying their official policies as the information and results we often see are at times quite contradictory.

As for getting them to change their stances that is nigh on impossible I agree. But I think the ones who got in worse debt than any of us, took our money and is now partly or mostly owned by us the taxpayer has a duty of care to the public.

I do think we get treated badly but the banks can deal with who they like and as they have many more solvent than insolvent customers, we will always fall by the wayside.

Hi Stupots,

I have a lloyds cash account and savings account and a lloyds visa debt and got these after my IVA. I have also found my www.moneybookers.com 0% commission prepaid mastecard invaluable. No reason why you could get salary paid into a trusted friend or family bank account and then transfer the money immediately to your ewallet account and pay all your bills over the telephone etc etc.

12 Months to go with IVA .... Until I can try and get a business bank account - got turned down by everyone including Federation of small business / coop!!!

Well just been turned down by Nationwide.

She even showed me on the proposal from where it says know IVA /Bankrupts

She gave me that apologetic look and at the same time as I sat there the please ‘p**s off look’

The search goes on

Whats with all these web sites saying these banks do people with IVA's ?

Yeah Creditors are a no-no really. As for closing accounts after they find out HSBC and First Direct are the only ones I know of who would do that.

Obviously accounts with Creditors might be closed.

Maybe just see what happens with the Santander one in the next few months?

I'm wondering if it might be worth writing to the Chief Exec's of all the UK Banks we know of asking their position on giving accounts to people in IVA's and BR and trying to get some definitive info for people looking for advice.

It just seems very hit and miss at the moment as to what branches are telling people and how people are being treated.

I'm happy to undertake this by email and letter if no email is available. I'm on a site tomorrow where all I can do is surf the internet anyway uo pass the 12 hours....
I wrote to my local MP when I was made redundant because I had to travel 45 miles round trip to my local job centre. Long story but we swapped some letters

Given I spent tens of thousands in taxes I figured I was entitled to my £60 a week JSA.

It got in the papers etc etc

I will write to him again

I was out of work 10 months back on feet now etc etc etc now getting another kick in the teeth re banks.

19 years with First Direct no debts with them , and now 1 letter its f*** ***

I can see a crusade coming on

Man gets back on his feet but now is walking from bank to bank trying to get a bank to accept his pay slip etc (It was raining today)

Maybe I’ll get the local paper to run a story

See me on watchdog next !!! [8D]

I am not proud to be in an IVA but I am not ashamed

I do agree that the banks shouldn't treat us a second class citizens and it does appear that more and more are becoming anti IVA.

I can only suggest that you try one of the managed accounts stewpots.

We'll be behind you lol. It annoys me because when you out of the IVA you know they'll be after you as a customer, I'll be sticking with the people who stuck with me.

Yorkshire Bank and especially the Co-Op helped me so I'll give them my business, the rest can go !*&%£!!!!

I’m sorry if I whinge on

Thinkbanking did accept me but many of the forum reviews are dreadful for that bank.

I do have a unused current account with sandander and I just updated my address 2.5 years after I moved.

I ‘assume’ I will get the *** **** in a few weeks, we shall see.

Most people seem to have got their accounts just before then entered an IVA or before it ‘registered’ on some ‘computer’

‘Maybe’ only HSBC and First Direct close accounts of people in IVAs ?

However I have a credit card in the IVA which was Sandander

What I should have done is open a lot of ‘bank accounts before my IVA was on a ‘computer that says no’ log.

Instead of Thinkbanking, try Secure Trust. It is the same sort of thing and does come highly recommended by one of the experts who post on here.

As regards banks, I recently managed to open a new account with Santander despite being in an IVA. I closed it again as I wasn't happy with the customer service and I had problems with my debit card, but I was able to open it without any problem.
