Skip, I'm looking for a nice hat for your wedding!
As to Kitty, I do agree that savings from allowances, plus gifts for Christmas and birthdays, may help you get there for a few days.

I'm just in the process of setting up an IVA, and I agree you do feel shame and embarassment, but I confided in my Mum and brother at the weekend and was amazed at how supportive they were. They knew I had been struggling for a while and had been helping me out, but didn't know the extent of my debt. It felt good to share it with them, and they were actually really understanding and supportive. I felt sick telling them ,and although my Mum was upset she fully understands why I have to do it and that hopefully I can get myself straight once and for all, and at least pay some of my debt back. At least now I will have her to talk to when times are hard, so maybe your family won't judge you too harshly. At least they will know the real reason why you can't go, and not that you don't want to.
I can understand where Kitty is coming from. My parents would be horrified if they knew of our financial circumstances, and I have no itention of telling them.
I don't know what I would do in the circumstances, but I would have to think of something.

It's times like this when it becomes even more stressful. Nobody knows about our IVA either but agree with the others that there are more people in our position than we think.
Do you have pets? If you do would they believe that you have no-one to look after them? That is the one we are using at the moment.
