Hi there and welcome to the forum

An IVA ought to be drafted, prepared and presented within 2-3 weeks of your IP being in full possession of the documentation required to process the case. There then has to be a three week period in which the creditors meeting is called and held.

In my experience the most time spent is in gathering up clients' documents - so do try and get the paperwork in as quickly as you can.

What timescale have Grant Thornton given you as a matter of interest?

Are you using Grant Thornton as your IVA company? If so, and you have a reference number, when creditors call ask them to contact or IVA company and quote your reference number. Don't get int a conversation with creditors, just state that you are doing an IVA. I'm only a year in, I'm just saying what I was told by BE (my IVA people). An expert will see your post and be able to answer your post much better than me.
All the best.
IVA started Sept 09. Glad to be on the way to being debt free

I would just be honest with your Creditors and tell them you are in the process of trying to set up an IVA.
They will probably still call and tell you anything to try and make you pay.
Beware, sometimes the calls carry on for a short time after an IVA is accepted. It just takes time for the relevant information to filter through to the right department.

Good luck with your proposal [:)]

I remember when we were getting phonecalls from our creditors. We explained about going through the IVA process and they told us they didn't know what that was - I think they were playing dumb with us. We just gave them the name of the IVA company and they left us alone. x
Its now time to start living and to make some some wonderful memories!

I didn't speak to my creditors at all, just wrote to them to tell them what was going on and that I would be dealing by mail and nothing else.

They still phoned though.

I spoke to them all had a script and told them my IP's contact details and any further communication was to be made through them, some were fine others not, it seems a long time whilst it's happening but honestly once accepted the script changes to one of confidently saying my IVA was accepted on the **** please do not contact me again. x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

I took great delight in telling Mercers on the date of acceptance that I was in an IVA and they couldn't contact me again. She said fine, can you make a payment today please! I told her that wasn't possible, couldn't do it in an IVA and that was it! No phone calls since.

Hi Saddyazz,
I took out a Natwest Step Account. I went into branch and explained I was going to do an IVA. That was a year ago. I have found Natwest fab but some people say they have had trouble opening an account now. It's worth a try as a great account.

Hi sadyazz. When I decided That I was proposing an IVA, I wrote to, and phoned all my creditors explaining that I could no longer meet repayments and stated that I was proposing an IVA through a professional IP. I gave them my IP`s details and asked them to forward any queries or correspondence to them.
Three of my creditors still phoned regularly, one only a couple of times and the rest never made any attempts at phone contact at all.
