Hi everyone, new to the site although i have been nosing in on it for months and months !!! Firstly I would just like to say how much i admire you all for facing your debts and doing something about them and also of how supportive you are of each other !!! Needless to say i am struggling with mega debts Same old story i suppost, husband traded me in for a younger model 11 years ago leaving me with my two lovely girls (big girls now tho) i embarked on a 3 year uni course realised i would need to do something half decent to keep us goin and from then it just all went wrong !!!
So i am now at the stage of considering an IVA although it scares me to death !! fear of the unknown i suppose. I worry about not being able to fulfill it, i worry about not having enough money to live on in fact.........i worry about everything !!! i always manage to pay my bills do it as soon as i get paid, and leave myself skint. I am in arrears with 2 credit cards, simple because i paid too eary and they took it as extra payment instead of my minimum and, as you are all probably aware they just dont listen. I read a sentence on here someone posted that read "well done for having the courage to face your debts" and thats whats needed isnt it??? courage...where will i get me some of that ????!!!! xx not too sure about the posting thing yet so sorry, but its on twice under different topics !! doh
To face up to your debt can be a bit daunting but once done and you realise you're not alone it's a great feeling. To know there are others in the same/similar situation is reassuring as I was convinced I was the only person in the world in my situation!
When you pluck up a bit of that courage and if you feel like help talk to 2 or 3 companies for some no obligation, free, impartial case specific advice.
A list of companies can be found at www.iva.com and some reviews.
A chat costs nothing and all debt solutions can be discussed.
All the best and remember we're all here for support/advice. x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.
Hi Lesley, and thank you !! it is good to have somewhere to get things off my chest, the dogs, goods listeners they may be, but not so good on offering advice ! i keep tellin myself i couldnt possible be any worse off, and at least the creditors will take me off their speed dial !! [}:)]
Coming on here is the first step, so well done for that. You have found a whole bunch of people in the same boat.
Have a look on here and on IVA.com and pick 3 companies to call. I can't overstate the importance of this! You'll most likely feel loads better once you talk to someone.
They'll take you off it once accepted for sure as they'll be bound by the terms of an IVA.
Why not pluck up the courage to have a chat with 2 or 3 companies on a no obligation basis, our professionals who post on the forum all come highly recommended.

Really glad you found us on the forum - you couldn't have picked a better place for support and good advice.
When you have plucked up the courage to call any of us the first thing we will do is help you understand in reality how much can you affrd to offer your creditors each month. We'll talk thourgh all the options there are and answer as many questions you have, then hopefully we will have got you to a stage of A) not being so scared anymore, B) knowing a lot more about what your options are and the implications of each and C) being able to make a decision on what action to take.
We're not scary, honest!!!

Hi Scaredykat, I think you are very lucky to find this forum before you commit yourself in IVA, when I did it I knew nothing about it had a quick look in the proposal signed and sent, after a read the chairman report I was about to have a heart attack then I found this wonderful forum, now I spend at least one hour a day getting stronger and stronger no more sleeping tablets, and I do not find the words to thank all the forum experts for their quick response and valuable advice. so good luck for what ever you decide
Hi there
our first contact was tina s and the advice we received has served us well.
were 9 months into our iva and im not gonna pretend its all plain sailing but were a darn sight better off than if wed done nothing.
good luck on your journey whatever you decide.
Tha nk you all soooo much for your help and support it is really really appreciated !! i know i have to do something i cant go on like this...goin to bed feeling sick and getting up feeling sick not good !! So next week when i am off work i shall pick up the phone and finally look for some help and advice...quite determined to do this hm, wonder if it was the bucket of courage i received ???? many thanks Pandy !!
Glad to see you going to take some advice. Do not be afraid of an insolvency practitioner because that is where you go when you are insolvent. If you had a toothache you would go to the dentist because that is their job.
Your post is so similar to a lot of the clients I have and am still dealing with in my practice. You feel a failure, you feel ashamed and sometimes you just want the earth to swallow you up when things get so bad. But help is at hand, because you have found this wonderful forum where I am sure you will find many friends, and the next natural step to take will be to seek some professional advice about the options which are available to you, and their individual advantages, disadvantages and implications.
Can I wish you the very best of luck, and ask away about anything you need to on the forum as help is always here at hand. I tend to do the late shift, and Lesley is an insomniac at the other end of the day!!!
Its not easy but admitting that there is a problem i found was one of the hardest things to do. We're only 5 months into the IVA but i can honestly say its the best move for us we've ever done. Cant say its easy, learning to budget again, but definately worth it and were still managing a hol (out of season) later in the year. And our children are none the wiser. Good luck in whatever path you choose and that you find some relief soon xx
I look forward to reading your posts next week scaredycat once you have made your calls and know what you want to do. I am that confident you will feel a different person next week when you've done....and then you'll kick yourself you never did it earlier but thats life!!!
Have a good weekend in the meantime - pack the sick feelings in a box, do something you enjoy being confident in the fact that you'll be taken care of next week.
Promise!
