My IVA stared on 7th June this year. Having been on a Debt Management scheme for nearly two years, with no end in sight, at last there is light at the end of the tunnel. The guys at DebtFreeDirect have been so helpful.
Could anyone shine any light on a possible situation which might arise please. If I were to marry again, after 17 years, would my new husbands income affect my IVA? Although this debt is totally mine and was accrued well before we met.
As far as I think your IVA is based on your disposable income if you are living/married to someone obviously the house hold bills etc would be shared so you would potentially have more disposable incomefor the IVA.
Hi
That is correct, your disposable income may change as generally two people can live cheaper than one person. Your new husband would never be liable for your debts

Thanks for all the advice. Andie, what if I was to keep my house going due to the fact my son lives there still, I would be paying most of the bill due to him not in contracted work. Sorry for sounding a little thick here. I would potenyially have no extra disposable income, would this still not then involve my husbands income?
Belinda
Your husband income would only be taken into account to show that he pays a share of household expenses.
You hubby would never be asked to pay for your debts but it would be only fair that he pays his share of things like gas, electric, food etc.

Discharged today the 8th feb 2012. View is much brighter now.
Continuing to rebuild our credit worthiness.
Hi Melanie.
At the moment no, due to work being casual, food money sometimes when work comes in.
I would actually be living in a different home with my future husband, so he would not be helping toward bills that were connected to my own house. Sorry if this sounds complicated.
I would say that as long as your changed circumstances do not affect your ability to maintain the payments into the IVA then all should be well, although you would need to check this with your own IP who does of course have detailed knowledge of your case and your individual circumstances.
