I am new to this forum, having just looked into IVA's over the last week.
Holly, I hope everything goes well for you with your IVA application and echo what everyone else says. I am looking forward to being in an IVA, and hope that we are approved when the time comes. Working to a budget just has to be better than living off credit cards which is what we have done for so long. I just wish we had known about this a couple of years ago!
Melanie, are Grant Thornton OK? I spoke to CCCS earlier who have referred us to Grant Thornton because my husband is a lorry driver and difficult to pin down for an appointment. Grant Thornton operate out of office hours so can arrange to speak to him at more convenient times
There are other firms who operate outside office hours. Mel's office is one of them.

That is really odd as CCCS do have a special IVA department. I wonder what criteria they deem makes an IVA acceptable to them and what makes them need to refer it to Grant Thornton.
Hi Melanie,
We refer self employed and Northern Ireland clients to GT. Also, if the client requires a face to face appointment in an area that we don't have staff available we will refer them to GT.

CCCS is a registered charity. We take great pride in offering first class help and advice, but we only offer this where we have been able to fully explore and understand your circumstances with you. We want to help you understand these choices and their possible implications but not make them for you.
Hi everyone, holly here,I'd just like to send my heartfelt thanks to everyone who replied to my queries, just knowing i have friends going through the same has helped lighten the load, trying to change bank account at present but dont know what to do with my payday loans, they are still likely to go to my usual bank and will bounce,so il get hit with phone calls from the companies concerned and hit with £53 fees from the bank for every one that bounces, can any one please advise?would i be better phoning the companies direct and explaining im in financial trouble?xxx

Odd reply, with all due respect to you Sarah we are neither self employed or live in N.I. but were passed on to GT by CCCS.
Not that it makes a difference to us now anyway.
If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else’s, we’d grab ours back.

Thanks for advice briggadeen, Youre right im in N Ireland and getting new b account sooooo difficult, You recommend Bank of Ireland, but im dubious going to them as they are my employers bank! seems to be a great outcome with co op, however dont have a local branch. Im going to phone them tonight and see if i have any joy with them surely il be able to get wages paid into the account if im approved!Ive meeting with Grant Thornton next wed 16th june to discuss IVA and i want to get bank account sorted by then,Im so scared think the enormity of the whole situation getting to me now VERY VERY STRESSED,XXX[:(]
Hi Holly. The Co Op have a branch in Donegal Square, Belfast and you could probably open one while meeting with GT whose offices are also in Belfast. Ring tonight and if it cannot be sorted out over the phone it may be possible to make an appointment to coincide with your meeting on Wednesday.
You should not be concerned about the Bank Of Ireland as they cannot discuss your business with anyone else and anyway you are only opening a new bank account. I would also suggest you try a new account online with someone like Santander as your credit file may not be as damaged as you think.
Good luck on Wednesday and hopefully all goes well.
