Well our DD usually go out on the first and unitl today hadn't heard a word. I did wonder if it was only the first time we've missed a payment that we may not get called this month. I was wrong and it's started today. AA (Bank of Scotland) have called three times left a message on the house phone, a text message and a missed call on my mobile.

I can't make my mind up what to do. Answer and tell them we are hoping to start an IVA or just ignore the calls? Although it doesn't make it go away, not speaking to them feels the easiest option at the moment [V]

Hi
I would take the calls and give them details of your IVA provider. If you ignore they will get more intensive and they may start contacting you at work.
If you speak to them do not be bullied into making any payments

You are right Andy, I didn't think I would be that bothered as they are only in a call centre, not at the door. My stomach turns over when I think of answering.

Is it worth me sending the template letters out now or is it too late? We are waiting for our proposal to come back.

Hi, we did as Andy advised and told our creditors when they rang that we were entering into an IVA. All the calls stopped except for 1 credit card company, but they only wanted to be kept up to date and then wished us good luck once the IVA started. We received a few letters but we just sent them to our IP and then these stopped after a couple of weeks.

I don't even know how to start. They will say you haven't paid the money this month and I say...

'I'm sorry, I can no longer make my payments and have started IVA proceedings'

Is that ok? Sorry for sounding a bit dim but want to be straight before they call again.

Thanks

I'm now waiting for them to call back to get it over with. Like many on here we have never missed payments and the thought of telling them we can't pay is stressing me out. Maybe once I have done one call it won't be too bad.

I'm not good on the phone anyway!

Thanks!

Thanks Helen - being able to tell people on here how I'm feeling is a great comfort.

I can hand deliver some as I am passing the offices tomorrow. I never thought it would be easy, we have been undecided for a good twelve months whether it was the right thing for us to do and genuinely think it is. We could probably have lasted another 12 months and then had no available credit and our mortgage breaks all used up.

This whole process is scaring the life out of me, but I know it can't get any worse. Well, unless our IVA isn't accepted...

Hello Heavy Debt, you sound like me a month ago, I was asking all the above questions regarding phone calls, it is the worst part, but I did find the strength, it was easier to speak to them and I had a few calls to work ! I stayed strong and polite, I found Barclays and Tesco's the worst, and don't even get me started on Capital One. We have now made our first months payment, and like I said in a previous posts,we should have had the courage a year ago,but stupidly took out another loan we really could not afford. Please have faith in your IVA company and as many others say your best offer will be put forward, and I am sure it will be positive. It was for us. Keep posting and asking questions, nearly always somebody has the same experience as you or can answer you. You are not alone here, and I am so thankful for this forum and the support. All the best

I hadn't missed a payment to creditors until the start of my IVA process. I found it hard initially to talk to them but after 2 or 3 calls I became a professional. Read out my script of I'm in the process of proposing and IVA and my IP is blah blah blah, didn't really give them a chance to hassle me for money as I said any further correspondence please send to my IP and ended the call.
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

Hi
It is differcult. If they keep hassling you refuse to answer their security questions, Im never happy giving details when people phone me in any case. I also unplugged the phone we had call minder at the time so I just phoned people back who I wanted to speak to.
Good Luck, I did'nt find this forum until after I had set up my IVA. Wish I had found it sooner as I felt like the only person in the world who had these debt problems and I can never talk to anybody outside.

Personally, I never spoke to any of my creditors at all over the phone, just wrote to them to inform them of what was happening.

It is each to his own though and if you feel happier going for it, then fine. Just don't let them bully you into anything.

Thanks for your replies everyone. Well, I waited for them to call again last night and today, haven't had one call! Typical now that I psyched myself up!

No doubt there will be someone to practice on in the coming days. I am just petrified they call work as I am off next week and my colleagues always ask who is calling.

We will be getting our proposals back soon so hopefully we won't be called for too long and will have only missed payments for maybe one month.

If they phone work and give their names, then you can always fib and say that they are pestering you to take out insurance, or you've got a dispute going on over a payment.

Good idea Jan. I do that at home if my parents are here and it's something I don't want them to hear. They don't even know we use credit cards.

I know what you mean - this is the first month we have missed paying but the savings have finally run out and a very rude man from Egg has already been on the phone twice!

We are waiting for our proposal back as well so am hoping it wont be too long so I can stop worrying myself sick and actually get some sleep!

Good luck with everything, let's hope it works out for both of us
