Well it was a way out of a big hole for me, even though I would have been better off going BR as I have no assets and don't own a house.

Saying that I don't consider a IVA a con, I consider it a way to pay back my debts to the best of my ability as morally I feel I'm obliged to and know that after 5 years that will be it.
We're willing to wipe the slate clean, give you a fresh start. All that we're asking in return is your cooperation.

It was one of the best things we ever did.

Great to read opinions and I too would like Gerald to expand on his post. We all know that some IVA's fail and I think its important to post the reasons, to help others to avoid the same pitfalls.

Even though hubby's IVA failed, I would never say an IVA is a con. Afterall, the money was borrowed and I believe there's a duty to pay back as much as you can.

Hope you come back ont he forum Gerald.

Hi Gerald - along with everyone elses replies I too am sorry to hear you had a bad experience and would like to hear more about the facts.

Forums like these are never a waste of time if people provide honest and fair details enabling others to form their own views. Absolutely, IVAs are not right for everyone and for some are an unmanageable solution. Any good company would not let anyone go into an IVA on that basis and would hopefully have provided the client with enough factual and balanced information about all options so that they may choose more wisely. For some however, an IVA is the best decision they ever made and is the cornerstone on getting their lives back on track.

I am sorry this was not the case for you and I hope the solution you have now taken gives you the beneficial and positive experience you should have had.

Please do tell us more so we can all understand why your personal experience was so bad. It will then give us a clearer picture and help others understand the particular pitfalls you fell into. Had you been given the right information and advice that is readily available by many good professional companies, I am confident your experience would have been much better.

Regards and best wishes,
Regards, Tina Shortland, Debt Advisory Manager for Melanie Giles at Debt Advice TV.

My personal opinion is only based on my IVA experience and it's a positive one. For me it was 100% the correct route to take and never regretted it for one minute. I've had a rocky road I won't say I haven't but of late things are settling down nicely. x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

Odd that the poster has not chosen to respond to any of our posts. Please don't be intimidated by the vast support shown for IVAs Gerald, we genuinely do want to understand what has caused you to form your particular views.

I quite agree Mel - it would be interesting to know why Gerald finds he should not be in his IVA.

No one will judge you Gerald, we are genuinely interested in helping you if we can.

Interest frozen, pay back only what you can afford, what's left gets written off, totally free course on managing finace & best of all after 5 years you are free to get on with your life!

I think this poster is a bit of an activist & his post was designed to create uncertainty & as he has given less info regarding his position than Nick clegg he is hard to take seriously.

Unless he comes back with anything, then we cannot judge Fox.

Suffice it to say that those of us who are happy with our IVA will continue to defend it.

He is a genuine poster who is on the Insolvency Register.

You can't actually state that he is a 'Genuine' poster since the insolvency register is public and I could go on it , pick a name and then post something here posing as someome else. It would be impossible for you to prove otherwise imho.

Personally, if this is true poster then they have come into some money or they have sadly received one of these letters that I get every few months telling me of my mistake in entering an IVA and they have taken that route.

I doubt the original poster will make any further posts.

That is very true! I hadn't thought of that - and how horrible for the real person if this was the case. Perhaps Admin could do a cross match against the IP or e-mail address used to ensure it is not another poster impersonating someone else, which is probably against forum rules.

Jan - do you know if this could be done?

Then let's hope that his bad experience with his IVA is the exception rather than the rule.

Let's hope he posted in a moment of anger, and will be back soon to provide some more details...

I think the majority of people are pleased with choosing the IVA route, I know I am and can thank this forum for lots of help before I decided on an IVA. Unfortunatly there will always be some people who have not benefited from the help and some companies who don't provide quality service!
