So, I'm halfway through my IVA and have just received a letter from Wescot to reclaim over £5k of debt that I know is included in the IVA. It would appear that that part of my debt was sold to Wescot ... well isn't that effing dandy?!? I've heard of these muppets.

This looks like a fishing letter though. I'll quote this sentence:

"The above address was provided to us by Experian as a possible forwarding address for you."

Shall I just return the letter and mark it as "not known at this address"?

I agree with Helen that you should inform your IP of this. They can't do anything to you so it's nothing to worry about.

I doubt it is a phishing letter. Westcot are a genuine firm.

I'm wary of informing my IP because if/when they take it up with Wescot, that will only prove to them that I do live at the address on the letter. Going by the hundreds of stories on this and other forums about them, I'm willing to bet that they'll ignore any agreement and just harass me for payment.

Hi
They can't ignore the IVA or harass you.
You must inform your IP and this debt will simply be included into your existing IVA

Sounds as though it is already included. I imagine that some wires may have got crossed somewhere.

Get your IP to sort it out for you though.

It is already included, in fact it's the chunk of debt that got me into the situation of needing an IVA in the first place. Without that, not only would I have not qualified for an IVA (not enough debt) but I'd have managed fine and would be free of another big loan by now, with just a couple of small credit cards to pay off.

They can do absolutely nothing to you Nighteyes, they are bound by the IVA. They cannot ignore it and they cannot hassle you for payment, indeed if you make any payments to them, I believe that it could be a breach of your IVA.

They should not be contacting you at all and it is down to your IP to speak to them.

Hi everyone, I thought I'd give an update on this. I contacted my IP last month, sending them a copy of the letter. They were very prompt in replying to me, and I haven't heard anything from Wescott since. A big thumbs up from me! :-)

I'm glad your IP sorted this for you Nighteyes.

Hopefully it will be the last you hear from Westcot.
