Typical bank holiday, rubbish weather and car problems that showed up on Saturday. I drive a 2001 yaris and my engine management light came on whilst driving, the car's performance doesn't appear to have any problems but now i have to wait till tomorrow and see what it is, i have approx £150 saved up for car repairs so god help me if it is something serious, grrrrrr just when you think you're getting back on track and then this.

The greatness of a man is not in how much wealth he acquires, but in his integrity and his ability to affect those around him positively.

Hopefully it won't be anything serious Orchid. The same thing happened with Dave's car a while back and all the garage did was run it through the diagnostic check and clear the warning and it's been fine ever since.
Just make sure you get it looked at, just incase. My Dads ford 2001 did the same thing a few months ago n there was a problem that if wasnt fixed sooner than later (even though it was running fine) was going to cost more if left.
Hope its nothing major - Cars I hate them! Could quite happily get rid of ours if I could!
Final IVA payment made in April 2013, never ever thought we could do it or get through it but we did! X

lovely you could buy an OBD11 which is a fault reader (cost £20) off ebay and it will tell you what wrong with car its probably ECG unit which is to do with emissions, you can turn light off with OBD and then if problem is not life threatening save up to get repair done x
On the slow safe road to success. Personal thanks to Melanie Giles Kallis Skippy Elv5 and all the other wonderful forum friends.
Orchid5 - I totally know the feeling.
Ours has developed a fault just this weekend and it costs £65 just to have it looked at at the dealers and we are dreading the bill to fix whatever is wrong.
Thanks for that information kabby3 - might definitely be worth investing £20 quid in a fault reader if the dealers charge £65 just to plug it into one.

When I was younger I did what I knew - now I know better I do better!
Just for info as well you can get a reconditioned ECU from several places that will save a fortune. Citroen wanted to charge me £700 for a new one,so I looked online and found someone who could do me a recon for £170. I went back to citroen and said that I couldnt afford the new one and they said they could get me a recon unit for........£440. Funny thing is they were getting it from the same place I was, just adding £270 mark up onto it.

Anyway i have had my car diagnostically done and it's an o2 sensor of which there are 2 on my car, the front one you can buy anywhere but the rear one has to come from toyota so guess which one has gone on mine! Yep you have it the rear one, the light was reset using that gismo thingy to a tune of £30 it lasted all of 24 hours grrrrrrrrr and is now back on, so car booked in for next tuesday to the tune of £210 grrrrrrrrr.

Sorry to hear that Orchid but at least it'll be sorted out next week.
There's definitely something in the air - Dave had his car serviced yesterday and it cost nearly £600! He's not happy as he's always taken it to Chrysler to be serviced, but it appears they haven't been doing what they were supposed to.
That happened with both mine n my dads cars, both fords n being taking them to a ford dealer for years, one which my Dad has always used (for a good 20 years) & bought both our cars from.
They totally annoyed me the first year of my IVA n mine was 870 in total n then Dads went spectacularly wrong all by itself the next n cost 450.
Both Been going to a local Garage - which is where Ive been today & had a better service & price for all work so far. N turns out Dads known them for years - so that made him happier!
Our MOT & service is still looming in a few months time - so watch this space!
Ps Sorry! Ford where also servicing the car for mileage it had not covered (ie: Dads car 30,000 miles n running a 80,000 mile check)
Hes had it from brand new for 9 years n only done 30,000 miles[:)]
Local Garage was like - Why was ford doing that?!?!?![:p]
