Wish it was only 3 months - I've been waiting nearly 5 months now!! [:(] Complaint filed to the ICO about 1 creditor who defaulted me in 2006, when it should have been 2004!! Still showing as incorrect on my CRF ! [:(!]
If you are looking to sort out your credit record, it is totally seperate to your credit score and will only cost £2.

As far as I'm aware there is nothing that you can actually do to improve your credit score other than having a bank account, mobile phone contract etc.
I agree with Skippy. Keep up to date with your normal commitments and your credit score will begin to improve. You could try getting something like the Vanquis credit card, and as long as you just use it occasionally and pay it straight off, that will help as well.
After the six years then everything should drop off your file and hopefully your score will start to rise.

I was thinking about the Vanquis credit card as a way to improve credit file, but my concern is that future creditors may see the name Vanquis and put 2 + 2 together and realise that I've had bad credit history in the past to have to go to them for credit.
So thinking may be better to wait and get a normal card after the 6 year drop off point and build from there.

I wouldn't have thought that would have an effect, and even after 6 years you may struggle to get a 'normal' credit card for a bit. While you won't have a poor credit history, you won't have much of a credit history at all as you'll be starting again.
I was thinking of going through my current bank, who know me and have been with the past 4 years, and the mobile contract I have is being recorded on the cra's too so that may help initially.

Eventually you should be able to do this, but it may take a bit of time.
