I have today received a letter from my IP Grant Thornton enclosing the annual report to creditors. This is the first annual report from them as our IVA was originally with Wilson Phillips but was transferred over to Grant Thornton. We have just completed year 2 of the agreement.
Anyway, I am a little perplexed to say the least as to the contents for the following reason. On the final page of the annual report it states.....
SUMMARY "I am currently liasing with the debtors with regards to the arrears of voluntary contributions and I understand that the debtors intend to rectify the situation. However in the event of breach I will contact creditors accordingly"
The report states earlier that there are £1036 arrears of voluntary contributions to date.
Now firstly we had agreed around a year ago with Wilson Phillips to defer one payment due to difficulties and they not only charged us a fee to do so but also extended the term of the agreement by 3 months.
We also had a request in the accompanying letter to contact Grant Thornton about the arrears which we did today and they told us that they could not understand why we had been asked to do so!!!!
can someone please explain to me why I am being told I am in arrears when this was an agreed deferrment with an extension to the term? Also why is the IP telling the creditors that we are in arrears and that we have made some agreement to rectify the situation when we have not been contacted at all until this letter today?
I have no idea what we are supposed to be able to do to rectify the situation we certainly cannot afford to pay back that amount of money which is why they extended our agreement.
Any advice would be welcome as this is worrying me....
Hi
Sounds like an admin error with your IVA.
Write to GT detailing your concerns and asking them to confirm in writing that your IVA is upto date with the extension to the IVA already agreed.
Regards
I have a couple of names at Grant Thornton who are handling these reports I can refer you to if this would help. I don't want to post their details on the forum, but if you e-mail me to my website I can put you in touch.
Reason I ask is your situation sounds similar to mine.
My IVA started in Jan 2006, originally with Wilson Phillips (Took me 10 months to get IVA into place - don't even get me started on that!) and was taken over by Grant Thornton last year.
At the end of 2008 I was made redundant and had permission from Wilson Phillips to take 3 months payment break and the arrears were to be tagged onto the end of my IVA. (I'm back in employment and all is good)
I completed my income and expenditure back in December for my annual review but haven't had any feedback yet...
Although I recieved a letter from GT a couple of weeks ago... I have breached my IVA as I haven't completed my i&e!
I was furious and called them up, their response was "Oh yes, we have it here."
I don't think they understand how a simple admin error can send you into a panic frenzy!
So still waiting for news about the review and hope everything is going to be okay regarding arrears.
My IVA will end March 2011, 5 months before my 30th birthday, already planning what I'm going to do when the time comes!!!
Grant Thornton take customer care very seriously, but with all human systems there can be the occasional error unfortunately. This is always more difficult to manage when you have taken cases over from another IP.
Whitegold,
I have written to GT as suggested earlier explaining my disappointment at how this matter has come about and the fact they had actually misrepresented me in their report to the creditors. I sent the letter off last week and am awaiting their response. As soon as I get it I will update this thread.
Your situation does sound similar however, you say you had a 3 month payment break?......so did they tag 3 months on the end of your iva or was it more?...also out of interest how much admin charges did this break incurr??
Incidentally if Melanie is viewing this thread, you did promise me a couple of names at GT if I contacted you via your website, I did do that last week but have not heard back from you, maybe slipped your mind??
Perhaps she has been busy, or the email didn't get there?

I have had nothing but trouble with GT letters not answered promises when I phone them to get back to me they haven't. I wished that GT had not taken over my IVA from Accuma. They are useless customer care. Seven letters sent not one reply!!!!!! Markiboy
I am sure that Mel will get back on this thread and be able to help with some names.
GT do normally have a good reputation on here.

A Point of contact would be great with a number please. I just want my IVA back to normal. It didn't help that when I phoned their customer services they had an address that I hadn't been there for 12 months even though I had told them twice by letter???
I can't help you with a phone number, and we are not allowed to post them on here.
Was there a problem with your IVA?
