Thanks comps... I did read that in the policy schedule, but not taking my own advice, assumed that was common to most and didn't shop around. In fairness, Tesco have been prompt in settling to largish claims this year, but I might well take a look at other policy options when its due for renewal in December.

Martin - If the claims you have already made are classed as pre-existing conditions (ie they weren't things like a cut paw, bite wound etc) then if you switch you wouldn't be covered.

An alternative would be that Tesco do an 'extra' cover which is 4k per condition, not ideal as once that's used up that it (believe me, that could be used up in 6 months what with the advances of veterinary technology!) but it's better than only being covered for 12 months!

I spent ages comparing policies when I took out my insurance and the cover Axa ofers was second to none and the premium is very reasonable too.

I am with Petplan at the moment for my big dog (can't remember who the other one is with - how bad is that?) They are not the cheapest but their cover is excellent. As I have a dog who will eat anything, then I have to be covered for all eventualities!

I seem to have the most expensive cat in the world! Petplan was nearly £15 a month and I just did a quote on Axa and that was dearer! He'll have to stay Homebase Harry I'm afraid!

Homebase Harry [:D] I'm looking at Homebase for cover for the cats and puppy...we have cat insurance at the moment but always worth shopping arpund. Have free puppy insurance for the next 6 weeks.

Under hubby's IVA we couldn't even claim an allowance to feed the cats never mind insure them! Hopefully your IP is more sensible Amy. Hope your cat is recovering [:)]

I've got two uninsured dogs! Shame on me, even basic cover would be better than none for me, I'll be looking around gathering some prices x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

Having had a Great Dane a few years ago, and fortunately he was insured (cost the insurance company £1100 for tests etc, plus the £500 we paid for him after he was put to sleep at 13 months old!), I would never have a dog who wasn't insured.

I insured Harry as although if it came down to it I would get into debt again for him, that's got to be a last resort! There's no way I'd want to be in the situation where I had to think about money before agreeing to vet treatment for him.
