hello all - me again...

The fantastic job hasn't transpired.... I was verbally offered the job, and wondered why a contract wasn't forthcoming despite agreeing a start date. And then they retracted the offer of employment!

Glad to report that it was through no fault of my own - my skills and qualifications more than spoke for themselves - but they just didn't know what they wanted, so they played around - really bad if you ask me. At least the agency is going to sue and refuse to deal with them ever again based on what they did to me!

On the upside, my redundancy payment is still intact, and my IP has said that I can hang on to 100% of it, and I'm now eligable for lots of benefits whilst looking for another job.

Hey Ho - I suppose these things happen for a reason!

You poor thing, that's awful. I know it won't seem like it at the moment but if that's the way they treat people you're best off out of it. I'm pleased that the agency are standing up to them.

Good luck finding something else, I'm sure you'll find something myxh better xxx

Thanks Skippy... onwards and upwards!!

One thing I wanted to say - I've noticed a lot of posts on here from people at risk or who have been made redundant - (an unfortunate sign of the times....)

Its not all bad! I've been given really good support from my IP - they've been really understanding, and its not been as stressful as I thought. I've kept in constant touch with them to update them on my circumstances. I suppose the most important thing is to not panic - nothing is inusurmountable, and the last thing they want is for you to fail your IVA. My redundancy was negligible in the grand scheme of things, but its still working out.

That is dreadful treatment - how can they offer you the job and then change their minds!! You could have given up a perfectly good job to move to them! Best of luck in the future job hunt and hope you find something soon.

You could seek compensation - as soon as you are verbally offered a job, you enter a contract. Therefore they should in the least pay you a sum equilavent to the notice period.

This is obviously not my field Julie and as such my immediate thought is how easy or hard would that be to prove?

Unfortunately, its not the easiest thing to prove as often its a telephone call offer- thats why I always advise to get offers backed up by an email. Its the quickest way to get a written offer, no matter how informal.

Still, no harm in writing a letter making a claim - if nothing else it lets companies know their legal obligations. Unfortunately, some companies couldn't care less.

Just caught up with this single_mum - how awful for you!

Fingers crossed that something comes up for you soon.

So sorry to hear your news, Singlemum, but from the sounds of it you're better off without them. From your positive, go-ahead posts I'm sure you'll sail into a job in no time at all. Hope you do and keep us posted.

Thanks to you all for your good wishes!!!

Quick update - it would appear that the agency that I was going through will be suing the backside off this company! And, I also found out today from another agency I'm dealing with that they have refused any further business from them too! I have had such a lucky escape!!!

(wonder if I would get any compensation?! LOL - Seriously though, I did put on hold the job search, and agency wasn't looking for anything else either - so I lost out on 2 weeks of looking - anything could have slipped through my fingers!)

hi melanie i,m going on a march today to save corus steelworks based around the country from shutting,as recently proposed.if we loose any more manufacturing based companys this is going to make a bad situation devastating for communities around the country.people are getting sick of lack of support by the government not supporting businesses, when needed most through the present climate, so are starting to march to wake up the government,it will be on the news today the march is at redcar in teesside.we dont want to be a nation of shopkeepers but we will be if nothing is done soon.[:(!]
