Hello all. Im have been on an IVA for about 2 months now. Everything is great. So im using the 5 years in the wilderness to go back to uni. Im doing an Events and Hospitality course. Previously in construction and thats gone down the pan. Anyway im also looking to do a AAT Accountant course also. The big question is will i be able to take the exams at the end of the day?
Im really worried by this as i have planned this ever since i was made redundant last year.
You will need to check their entry criteria. I have an accountancy qualification - whilst they do not penalise members who enter into IVAs (to a certain extent), the presence of a 'compromise with your creditors' impacts on what is called yur 'fit and proper person test'. I'm not sure if you can join if this is impacted. Check out http://www.aat.org.uk/ for more info - specfically any joining/membership criteria.
You guys were both right. AAT will accept you on an IVA. They do conduct a fit and proper person test, including how much you owe. The one thing they will decline you on is, that since you have been on an IVA you need to make sure that you are 100% upto date and everthing is running smoothly.
That is great news - and very useful to know as well. Thank you for sharing the outcome of those discussions with us, and good luck with the IVA and the exams!
