Also have to agree, in the commercial market of IVAs, there are plenty of more than competent IPs who dont charge upfront.

I paid one payment in advance of my creditors meeting, but counted towards my total repayment. i.e. payment 1 of 72.
50 months down 22 to go!

Adam had you paid two payments up front and never had a creditor's meeting do you think you would have had your money back? I doubt it,but at least when you paid your first payment you had a date for the meeting and a legal document signed and sent to creditors.

There is no need to pay up front for advice.

I agree Michael.

The vast majority of companies who charge, do so on top of the IVA. It is a fee for 'introducing' them to an IP, something people are quite capable of doing themselves.

I think they will probably take this money before they 'introduce' you to their sister firm.

Give one of the professionals on here who post - Melanie Giles, David Mond, Michael Peoples, Size5 or Andy Davie. They all come recommened by posters on here.

Click on the expert link on the left hand side of the page and you will find all their details and will be able to contact them.

Personally, I would stop the process with BE - I think that if your IVA is not approved, then you would lose this money. The companies above, as far as I am aware, don't charge upfront fees, and if you can't get an IVA it costs nothing.

Give a couple of others a ring. It will cost you nothing.

thank you for your advice may do this, when i first phoned them up i did ask what the fees were and they said none, i was confused a the end. me and my husband are struggling because he has been on strike no fault of his own and all his overtime has been stopped so we have been unable to pay certain creditors on time, his wages are up and down, so there is a chance we would be refused an iva but we do have a lot of outgoings too. i have not signed anything so will ring can cancel tomorrow, so glad i read this forum today and the small print about my charges, we cant spare 600 pounds at the moment.

You do need to build up a bit of contingency.

I am sure that when you ring up tomorrow they will try and persuade you to stay with them. Phone one of the others and you will receive excellent advice.

We are here as well for advice and any support you may need.

Making contact with Mel and her team will probably be the best decision you have made in the past several years. Take my word for it,you wont look back!!
