There are plenty of companies to try. Seek the opinion of a few IP's on here. All come recommended. It is essential you find one you like and trust. Only you can decide this. I am sure speaking to another IP will give you different ideas. I tried Payplan first of all, and they said no, i tried the company i am with now and they got it approved 1st time.
Good Luck
can i ask why they wouldnt take you on, mine is they are saying we have surplus money left only my hubby is a contractor and his wages change all the time and the strikes are out of his hands completely

I'm with Payplan and had no problem, others (such as yourself) do have problems with them.

Give one of the companies on iva.com a ring - you may find one able to help you.

Basically, they did not believe that i could make sufficient repayments to the IVA. I was advised to make token payments of £1 to each debt. I questioned the advice and then seeked another opinion. As many have stated, jsut because one turns you down, someone else won't and maybe able to offer a solution.
This is no way a reflection on payplan, but obviously i did not fit there protocol for an IVA.

I am not sure about government guidelines as the guidelines are imposed by the banks. Just because someone says that your expenses do not tick a box or there is no box to tick does not mean that you do not qualify for an IVA.

Definitely seek a different opinion and list all your expenses such as schooling costs. Also, if your husband is a contractor he may have bouts of self employment and many IP firms shy away from the self employed or those on contracts. It is not difficult to draw up a sustainable budget based on what can reasonably be foreseen and your husband can pay in 50% of what he earns over and above that figure.

If you are worried about schooling costs Melanie Giles got educational fees through for my son within my IVA. I have mentioned her to you before - she is very good at the difficult ones!

Thats good. At least you now have the ball rolling. Try and get some sleep and try to forget about it. You are now dealing with the debt and you will soon be on the way to being debt free.
Good Luck

The company will probably be Baines and Ernst, who will pass you on to their sister company Blair Endersby if they say you can do an IVA.

You do ususally have to make upfront payments in these cases.

I would also ring the professionals who post on here as well - you can find their details under the experts link on the left hand side of the page.

Just a reminder that there are companies who don't charge you anything in advance, which will save you a bit of money to perhaps build up a little bit of contingency.

Do not pay anything up front to any company. If that company cannot do the job on a no win no fee basis there are others like everyone on this forum who will. Also, if an IVA is not the answer you will get free advice as to what is the best option.

Totally agree.

If you wished to use Blair Endersby, you could go to them yourself rather than through Baines and Ernst. It would save you money.

As Michael has said - use one of the companies who post on here, they all have a good reputation.
