I only cancelled my DD's to my credit cards last week and the letters started arriving today, and had 2 phone calls for egg this evening. I haven't received confirmation from my new bank account application yet so i am panicing now. I knew i would have to go through this, just didn't realsie it would be so soon.

I get paid tomorrow and am concerned that my bank will cotton on to what i'm doing, can they take payment for my credit card without my permission? wanted to have the new account sorted before getting paid but not happened.

many thanks

They probably can take the payment for your credit card without your permission Emma. Why is it taking so long to set up your account? Which bank have you applied to?

Don't pannic and if you have cancelled your DD then they are not allowed to take payment.

Your new account should be up and running soon so don't worry.

Until an IVA is in place, banks can and do exercise their right to off-set on account against another and this does include inter-account transactions. Very commone, but unlikely to disturb the proposed arrangement at all.

Egg were pretty relentless in calling us. Just answer the phone and tell them whats going on,they cant do anything other than lie to you and try to make you make a payment that you cannot afford. Simply be firm but polite unless they become rude then its gloves off and say what you wish. Dont feel pressed into paying them anything.

Thanks for your answers. I have applied to Nat West for my new account on advice from my IP, i applied 3 weeks ago, and sent proof of ID at the begining of last week. Should i transfer my wages that have gone in today to a friends account or is that a big no no?

I know these people at call centres are just doing their job but do they really have to act like i'm a criminal and be so condescending??

Hi Emma, personally I would take all the money out of the account and chase natwest up. It only took 7 days for them to set my account up.

Emma make sure you know your rights and can quote them when they do become rude, they soon hang up. Here are two sites to look at.
