I'm fairly new to the forum and the support from everyone here is wonderful. i 'd like to support all the above comments, what a dreadful day you have had. Please stay strong, all of us are sharing your journey and i hope that knowing so many of us care helps sustain the courage you have. i am so pleased Melanie is taking the matter further. I am appalled at the indifference shown by medical staff towards your mother, this attitude is is totally unacceptable and i'm glad that David found the strength to challenge them. I sincerely hope your mother, and you as a family are shown the compassion and dignity you all deserve.
Regarding the dreadful phone calls; BT and Utilities Warehouse have a 'Choose to refuse' option that can easily be set up, just a thought, it may give you some peace of mind as you can block numbers you dont wish to answer. God
elv5, chin up and keep going, some of the responses to creditors phone calls are one of the things that keep you going, tonight we both had one, mine was from RMA (as discussed on another thread) and when they asked me to confirm my postcode I just said "no", she hung up, my missus had a call from Capital One, when they asked her for her DOB, she just said "I've forgot" they hung up.
Hi Mrs elv - I'm now back in the UK at my desk and caught up with your post. I think David's actions at the hospital was marvelous. I had the same problem a few years ago when my mother-in-law (who was 90 at the time) was admitted. David did the right thing. So sorry to hear about your dear Mum and I hope everything goes well.
Let me know which creditor representative made those comments - glad Melanie will be complaining but the more that this news is filtered generally the better.

David, thank you for your good wishes etc; had e-mail from Melanie and I have got to get the full name of the caller and then Melanie is going to lodge a formal complaint. You may be interested to know that HSBC have increased the overdraft which they created and said they have approved my (non-exitent) informal request. They are taking personal loan repayments when the money is not there to take! They also sent me their own debt advice brochure; your firm and Melanie's do not feature in it!! I must admit I am concerned about them but 37p is what Melanie has arrived at and that is that! I am really being looked after, and so is J, by her firm. They could not do mre for me and mine.
They will not be seen to be promoting a commercial firm David - most banks fees that the CCCS do a great job, as well as the CAB and other advice line charities.
Melanie,I think payplan were on it - you will see when it arrives at your office. The others on it were not much use to me that was one of the reasons (and some factories) that I looked for someone like you! There was a post on here about Monument - they were kind enough when they telephoned sometime ago now(only once) told them what I was doing and that was that. Have not been bothered since. Hope they vote yes for me!
David
Just picked up on all this thread and I'm really sorry you're having such a rotten time.
Having been there myself so recently I know exactly how they make you feel but you and J hang on in there, not long now till your meeting and everything will be sorted for you.
If these people keep ringing you just don't answer, or if you do and they start on at you, hang up, or leave the receiver on the side so they can talk to themselves, everytime they ask you a question turn it round and ask them one.
You are not too old, Melanie would not be doing this if you were. These sub humans just prey on our fears at a time like this to try to force you to pay something.
Ignore them, you are so much better than they are!
All be sorted soon, I'm sure.
Take care
Thanks Pap - Melanie has it in hand once I get hold of the individual's name - she intends to lodge a formal complaint. I hope my thing goes through ok - the more I read it the more sense it makes to me but I am biased! I have the utmost trust in Melanie so no worries there. J's mum has a leaking heart valve which has got to be fixed and because there may be something lurking in her tummy she has had another scan this afternoon. I am glad the consultants listeded to me not like their junior staff- in fact the cardiology consultant said I did the right thing on insisting to have him examin her. It looks like she will have to come to live with us sooner rather than leter - hope so.
Hope all ok with J's mum.
I lost my own mum to cancer just 18 months ago so I know it's not always easy to get hospitals to listen to you.
Good on you for holding ground - now apply the same to yourself - you are not biased, it is a good offer and makes commercial sense and I'm sure it will work out!
David,
I have been thinking of you all day and hoping that you are feeling brighter. I know you had a tough time yesterday. I have only just had the chance to look on the forum to see how you are and I hope that today has been a lot better. Chin up you are a lot better than any monkey in a call centre.

Paul, I do not know what I am going to say to you - you take no notice anyway!! I am concentrating on keeping on top of the hospital with J's mum at present. Look Paul, I am really grateful to you for all you have done and are doing. I just hope that one day I may be able to help you - not with money though - no good at that hence Melanie helping me. She really is cross with that creditor. I have just got this 37p on mymind when I read of 70 and aboveand above on here> Melanie got Pap,s through though 20 odd pence if I remember - Pap has also been a great stalwort with J and me.
I'm delighted that Melanie is taking up your "too old" issue. I don't know how old your hubby is, nor is it any of my business, but if it makes you feel better, Melanie got my IVA approved last November, shortly before my 64th birthday. The agreed dividend is 31p and that includes HSBC who voted "yes"
