I live with my parents at the moment, so the details my creditors have is the same phone number and address of my parents.
I would hate for them to have to be harassed by creditors asking for me, either on the telephone or heaven forbid knocks on the door if I went through with an IVA.
Is this something I'll just have to deal with?
If so, how long does this last before creditors stop bothering you?

If that is where you live that is a matter of fact I am afraid. Creditors will stop chasing you when the IVA is in place, and this may take four to six weeks from the time you instruct an IP to act for you.

Even once an IVA is in place, the calls may continue for a while until the information has filtered down to the call centres.

There's nothing you can do about it.

You could ring the creditors and give them your mobile number and the best time to contact. They will normally call the house as a first option but if you give them the mobile it will become the first port of call. You cannot of course ignore the calls or they could revert to calling home again.

hey irm i can totally sympathise with you. the calls are horrible and unpleasant but as the guys have mentioned they will stop eventually.
as a stop gap you could advise your creditors that you are no longer contactable on the number you originally gave and perhaps give them your personal mobile instead so that you can screen the calls
or just tell them you no longer are on the number they have for you and could they please correspond with you in writing instead. please dont worry we've all been and are still going there. just remember if it gets too much there is always lots of friendly ears here to listen to you ok take care [:)]

That is definately "Quote of the Week"! I love it - almost as good as David Mond's "Bash a Banker" week!

To be truthful no creditor likes loosing money and all look to get back either the full amount or a good percentage.

However because of new legislation and the protocol they ultimately have to accept based on affordability and they are only just realsing this now. More IVA's will happen in the future.

You are right but they make sure they get it back off other people. Some are still charging 30%+ APR's. For over twenty years I was amongst those "other people"

I am in the process of going for an IVA and have recently stopped paying credit cards (MBNA) and just sending token paymnts (£1 P.O., anyhow I got my first creditor call today and I was surprised at how well it went. I informed the person that I was not in a position to pay and gave him my details and who was acting on my behalf. He even said thank you for the information!!

best thing to do when they call is give them a different number to call you on!! just make one up and then they will change it on there system and your previous numbers on there system will disapear. i did this with all my creditors and within a week i had no creditors calling me.

That seems to be a very good idea Nobby! I wonder if anyone else has tried that with success.

Did that with Lloyds TSB yesterday, they e-mailed me to ask for an update on my contact details, too good an opportunity to miss, I do feel guilty though
