Hi all,
Im 3 yrs into my IVA and things going ok. My mum on the other hand has never dealt with her debt, and now she is close to blaiffs coming knocking. I have consistently pushed her to talk about this, and she has finally felt able. She would like to look at an IVA - does anyone have any recommendations for who to use and how can you find out if there are any local firms as oppose to big national companies?
Thanks in anticipation of your help

Hi,

The experts who post on here come highly recommended, so she could do worse than use one of them.

If you look under the experts link on the left hand side of the page, you will find contact details for them.

What about the company you are with? She could always try them.

Your mum should find comfort in how you have dealt with your debt issues - you are clearly maintaining your IVA well, and can now work with your mum to resolve her issues.
Why not speak with your IP or if not sure, why not approach Melanie Giles who posts on this forum - she is said to be one of the best. There are lots of possible companies so take time to find the right one - show your mum this site and let her read for herself the support and advice that is available for her - it might just make life a little more bearable !

I would recommend your mum gives Melanie a call. As well as being an excellent IP she is also very approachable.

Good luck to you and your mum x

I'll second that. Your mum might prefer to speak to another woman as well.

I would be happy to chat to your Mum. Sometimes a chat with a complete stranger is more worthwhile than chatting to a close family member. She certainly ought to consider all of her options with a professional before kneejerking into a decision which she might regret in the future.

If your IVA has been running successfully for 3 years and your IP was happy to do your proposal why did you not think to recommend your mum to speak to him/her?

Thanks for all your replies. I have recommended my IP but she was keen to work with someone local. Not sure why, I think she has is very scared and seems to feel if it is a local firm it is better. Obviously there is not necessarily any logic in this but we are taking small steps at present! I have found three local firms which do insolvency work, and I am also going round to show her this site tomorrow night to hopefully give her some comfort and added motivation. Thanks for offering to speak to mum Melanie, I shall offer this to her and we may be in touch.
Thanks again
jlo

Where does she live? I may be able to recommend a firm to you if I know their work.
