This is what the Forum is all about. Yes Melanie and I can give you the professional view (as others can as well) but other posters who are in the same position as you are here to help you through this trying occasion. Their support on this topic gives testimony to this and is overwhelming. Chin chin.

hiya julia-r
welcome as everyone has said , there is a way to sort your money problems out ,i know its scary we owed twice what you do i was feeling sick with worry with the phone calls and letters etc from our creditors i was scared to answer the phone i just let ot go to answerphone and didnt open letters but like you i found this site and read thru a lot of the posts i wasnt as strong as you i was too scared to post to be honest but read all the info available on this forum and website and phoned and i cried because the person at the end was so nice and kind and gentle and didnt judge me and talked me through everything the differece between dmp iva and bancruptcy and sent me info out and then checked to see if i was ok and if i needed any more help and that started the ball rolling and we had our iva go through in january
so please check out the website that people have said give them a call ,your life and health are more important than money , i would maybe see about seeing your gp and talking to them about things as the stress of debt can make you ill
please take care and keep posting

I can only echo what everyone else has said Julia, I started out with nearly 3 times your debt 5 1/2 years ago and have just made the final payment. I remember feeling so desperate at the start of it all and I just took the bull by the horns one day and said that's enough, hiding letters and shufling paper to pay one debt against the other only to do it all a day later, 7 days a week.
JUST DO IT ! You wont regret it !
All the Best D
! I hate credit cards !

Hi Julia

Hoping that you are feeling a little better after all the support you have received so far from this thread. 19 months myself and my husband found ourselves getting ill over our debts, and it wasnt until we sat down one night and added it all up did we actually realise how much we owed, NOT including the mortgage or secured loans, literally just credit cards, and personal loans we owed a total of £64,000, so after a sleepless night in March 07 i made the call to the IVA company (AND IT WAS THE BEST THING WE HAVE EVER DONE), i have never looked back.

Here we are now, were both still working, hubby fulltime, myself partime, 2 children (15yr old and 4 yr old) and we have never being happier!!! It really does you the world of good just managing on cash, and we only spend what we have, and we do have treats, and we do go out for a meal once a month, and we still afford to buy kids clothes etc etc.......whereas before we had no money left at the end of the month, with an IVA you pay a REALISTIC amount which leaves you with a REALISTIC amount to live on.

I cannot beleive we have now paid £1000's of pounds off our debts without actually getting in to anymore debt.

Our fixed rate mortgage even ended and our payments increase by £80 a month, BUT we still manage.

Really really, make that call, come on the forum and ask anything, it has helped me so so much.

Take care,keep us informed.x

Hi Julia,
A big welcome to the forum.

This is a great place for excellent advise, but more importantly support form people that know exactly what you are going through.

There is a way to sort things out,so don't dispair. Many of us have visited those dark places many times, but we have to sometimes look beyond £ss.

It will get sorted, just seek the professionals and keep posting for the support.
