HR never do look at the big picture though do they? Doesn't matter that you have had a 100% record before your illness, or by the fact that you are getting older. These HR people are nearly always young. Old age will catch up with them one day!

Why not ask to see a copy of the company policy for sickness/absebce. I think that you will find that the company has an obligation to ascertain whether they can assist in your 'rehabilitation or return to well being' . This just might be an opportunity to register the fact that you are asking for some help or compassion rather than a reminder of how many days / weeks you had to be off work. It certainly stacks up later if you get the boot and take them to a tribunal....constructive dismissal etc ..

Create a history of asking your employer for help, put the ball in their court..

Glad the doctor has sorted you out. Not sensible to go with a bad back it would only get worse. Hope you feel better soon.

I am the 'sickness clerk' where I work and have been on the recieving end of the company's sickness policy - it is not nice. If we have more than 9 days off in a 12 month rolling period then we have a sickness management hearing. They tell you by letter that you are entitled to a union rep or 'friend' to accompany you!! They then try and convince you that it is nothing to worry about and that they are trying to help you?? At the end of they 'hearing' they then tell you that if you are off again in the next 6 months then they will look at 'capability'. How compassionate.
Needless to say when I was hyperventilating, feeling sick and had a tight chest today I was consumed with dread in case I cannot pull myself together and end up being sick....

What I'm trying to say is I totally sympathise and I hope that you get sorted and start to feel better. xx

I'll pass on what everyone has said to me. Your health is more important than anything else.
