Hi ferrari

I am petitioning for BR and have opened an account with Think Banking. They do not do credit checks, costs £25 set up fee which will come out of your first deposit and £12.50 per month thereafter. Should you want an additional cardholder, there is a charge of £5 extra per month. It is a Maestro debit card, you cannot go overdrawn as there are no facilities to do so. You have two accounts - one is called your "Salaries account" where (as the name suggests) salary is paid into. All your D/D and S/O will have already been set up, Think Banking hold this money back for you and then transfer the balance into your Maestro A/C by 10.30am the same day. Much easier to deal with as you know your bills are paid and the money that is transferred is yours to do as you please. So, no nasty surprises when you get to the cash point or pay for something and there is nothing there!!!!

You can also try the Co-op Cashminder account which has internet banking and a Visa Electron card. There is also Barclays.

Welcome to the Forum Ferrari,

You could also try Lloyds Classic Account or Halifax Easy Cash Account, I would advise that you actually go into the branch rather than applying over the internet, dont be afraid to be upfront and honest. Best Luck [:D]

I didn't know Lloyds and Halifax accepted bankrupts. I was told by Lloyds that the only reason I could keep my account with them was because I already had it and it had no credit facilities.

Hi Ferrari, like Sue I'm with Think Banking and so far so good. My only advice is don't set up a bank account with anyone of your creditors (may sound obvious i know!) because any money you pay in would be seized by them!!! And as all the other banks that accept undischarged bankrupts were my creditors, I was left with little choice but Think Banking! If you set up a new account before your BR, make sure you don't go overdrawn on your new account as you'll be back to square one!!! Just open a new account and leave the balance as zero until after your BR.

I'm the same with Lloyds they said I could keep it as it was basic.

What's everyones take with Barclays for a basic account? Do they accept undischarged BR's if you go in branch to apply?

Barclays do accept undischarged bankrupts - someone on here has just opened one, I think it could be Jane.

I would definitely say go into a branch to apply - people seem to have a higher rate of acceptance that way.

Thanks, yes I think it is Jane. I think if you apply online it goes into 'computer says no' mode and that's it, hopefully in branch you get a more 'human' response.

Don't forget you can also get a Cash plus Mastercard as well! It is a front loaded credit card!

Costs £10 to set up with £4.99 monthly charge and is useful for paying credit card type transactions!

Natwest won't accept undischarged bankrupts and will actually close the account of someone who becomes bankrupt.
