Just had my 14 year old cat Smeg at the vets as she seemed to have problems with her mouth. Vet looked and said it was dental and she will need 3 teeth out and a clean up and polish. Then came the shock £377 plus £48 for todays visit. I dont pay that for my dentist. Cant believe the price but what can I do. Smeg needs the work doing so once again all of our savings gone.

That's not good news Carole - I can't believe how much vets charge! Hope she is ok soon.

I take her in by 8.30 tomorrow morning then collect her later in the afternoon. The problem will be keeping her in tonight as she loves to wander late in the evening hoovering up all the leftover fish food and what ever the cats next door have left.

I hope your cat is ok Carole, let us know how she gets on won't you? That is a lot of money I must admit but I'm sure she's worth every penny x

Good luck with keeping her in Carole!

Although vets' fees are expensive but pets are worth it - they give so much back.

You might find she is a bit groggy from the anaesthetic so keeping her in might not be so much of a problem!

I have to find money to get our youngest dog spayed in the next few months - also not looking forward to trying to keep a livewire young Russell quiet!

Just dropped Smeg off at the vet and can collect around 4ish. She is not a happy girl today as no food all night and then the trip in the dreaded cat basket, still she will feel the benefit when she gets home.

Hi Carole ... bit of a shock to see it cost that much ... mebbe it might be worth considering PDSA if you have a branch in your area. Also it may be worth asking your Vet if they have information on help with charges. I had my cats teeth done and the whole bill after help with charges was £59. but then I never ever take the first quote LOL.

I thought about shopping around for Harry as his jabs just get more and more expensive each year. I decided to stay with the same practice as I've never had problems getting him an appointment and most of the vets are lovely there.

Must admit that we stay with the same vet - never had a problem with them and although they're not particularly cheap I'm happy with the service.

Smeg is home and well. 2 small teeth out and a scale and polish. All her bloods were ok and they say she is in great shape for a cat of her age.She is wandering around getting reacquainted with her favorite places again. She has had a nice feed of cooked fish and now she is going to sit with me while we watch Midsummer Murders then up to bed where she will sleep on the sheepskin on the bedroom floor next to my side of the bed.
