Hello

I am thinking of an IVA and just have a couple questions. From reading on this forum I understand that your credit file becomes extremely bad making it it very difficult to get rented accomodation or bank accounts.
Does this also apply to utility companies? If I ever needed to switch my gas, electric or phone company (due to finding a better deal), will I able to or will none want to touch me?
I am not in arrears with any utility provider.

Thanks for all your help.

Hello Tygar,

An IVA will remain on your credit file for a period of 6 years from the commencement of the agreement. This does mean that if you were looking for accomodation through an estate agent who perform credit checks then this could hinder your chances.

However you may find it of more benefit to look for rental properties with private landlords as they usually do not perform credit checks.

In regards to utility companies I believe it is up to the individual provider as to whether they will perform a credit check or not.

Hi there,
With regards to utilities we switched gas/electricity company about 6 months into our IVA with no problems what so ever and we went through Uswitch! (went with the one that gave us clubcard points!)

Hi
I,m sure that when utilities do a credit check it is done just to check that you are who you claim to be,rather than to look at your payment profiles etc
