I need some advice. I have a 70 mile round trip to work each day in my car I have never included my petrol costs in my I/E and it amounts to £10 each day. How do I stand on this? I am struggling with the increase in my IVA payments.

Hi markss, petrol costs should definitely be included in your expenditure. Depending on the age of your car, you may have a case for increasing the car maintenance allowance above the usual £20 due to the additional wear and tear. I'm surprised your IP didn't raise the question of petrol with you...could it be that it was incorporated into another allowance?

How on earth have you been managing a budget without any allowance for petrol costs? It is one of the main areas of expenditure, and I find it astonishing that your IP would not have queried what you spend on travelling!

I think you definitely need to speak to your IP about this as soon as possible to get something included.

Did these costs come about after your IVA was approved, i am very surprised it has not been included in your original calculations !!

You also mention an increase in your IVA payments, have you just had an annual review, which your IP has suggested an increase payment, did you make them aware of this cost ?
