We are fortunate enough to be going to Florida on holiday this summer (very generous in-laws are paying!!), however I've just had a worrying thought about the entry requirements to the USA and am wondering if being on the insolvency register is likely to cause any problems entering the country?

Really hope not as that would be a disaster, hoping someone can reassure me?

IVA started March 2011, Completed March 2016 and certificate issued 11 days after final payment. It was not always easy but then some of the best decisions aren't.

I don't see why but check with the American Embassy just to put your own mind at ease. Historically many of the American founding fathers were actually debtors escaping from their creditors and as the creditors caught up with them they moved further inland. They changed the laws to suit themselves as they went along so the insolvency laws are more lenient on the West Coast than the East.

I remember Ian Botham was prosecuted for smoking cannabis on tour with England. On arrival at Heathrow there was a scrum of reporters and one asked whether he feared being banned from Australia now he had a criminal record. He replied 'I don't see why I should-it used to be compulsory!'.

Enjoy your trip.

I know of one person still in an IVA who has made the trip a couple of times, as well as one a few years out and one who was BR but just discharged who were also allowed in.
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.
IVA Completed 23rd July 2013 .... C.C. 10th January 2014

Used to be a wall up that said "In England we have history, in Australia they have previous".
