Hi Caraf
As part of my "I refuse to get stressed about this debt anymore" tactic, I now have a daily routine for when I get home from work.
1. Walk in door and see how many letters I have.
2. Open letters and if any are from my creditors mutter under my breath "Oh for crying out loud".
3. Put letters down and check phone messages. Breath sigh of relief when I discover there are none, or mutter under my breath again if there are.
4. Boot up laptop while getting changed into my slob about clothes.
5. Turn on scanner and scan all letters received.
6. Fire up Outlook and send an e-mail to my debt management company including all scanned letters and details of any phone calls.
7. Forget about it. Now I've passed everything on, it is out of my hands.
8. If any evening phone calls occur, tell them "Thank you for calling, I will get my Debt Management company to phone you. Happy Christmas. Goodbye". Put phone down.
Like you, I was quite nervous about people turning up at the front door, so investigated the rules and regulations about that. From that have these important safety tips that both me and my husband now adhere to ridgedly. These may seem a little obsessive, but they make me feel safer.
1. Doors and Windows are locked at all times. If we need to go out to the car the door is locked behind us. If we need a window open it's just when we're in the room.
2. The door is not answered without the chain on. These people cannot gain access to your property with force. However, once they have gained non forced access into your home, they can come back at any time and gain access any way they like. Non forced access can be you inviting them in, or them finding an open window or unlocked door and gaining entry that way. Hence rule number 1.
3. If we are on our own and have to answer the door, the phone goes with us. That way, if anyone trys to force their way in the police can be called immediately.
As for demands and threats, they can be very scary. But they seem to be the normal automatically generated letters that these computer systems churn out day in, day out.
I know it's hard mate, but as long as you keep your IP informed of everything that's going on and trust in them, you'll be fine.
Good luck
Johnz
