Hi lesley

There are several banks who will accept discharged bankrupts as customers, but not necessarily to assist you in restoring your credit rating. The bankrutpcy will remain on your credit file for six years following the date of the bankruptcy order, so there is no immediate release from that I am afraid.

Melanie
Does merely opening a bank account help your credit rating anyway? surely to improve your credit rating you need to borrow credit?? ie an overdraft, which the banks might not agree to anyway.

Hi
If you open a basic account[Coop cashminder is good]and run it well then the bank are likely to upgrade your account at some point and also provide you with credit facilities.

Opening a bank account in isolation is unlikely to assist to repair your credit rating unduly?
