An IVA may well be a solution for you to consider - on the basis of the brief facts you have presented here, it would appear to be a credible option for you - however there will be others which you ought to give equal consideration to, and then weigh up the pros and cons of each one.
An insolvency practitioner will be able to take you through all of the options and highlight the advantages, disadvantages and implications of each one - allowing you to ask questions along the way which are pertinent to your particular set of circumstances.
Just wanted to say welcome to the forum. As always, my friends have given you sound advice! This is the only forum I am part of, and I wish I had found it when I was drowning in debt, not 3 years into my IVA.
Many of us read, post, ask and answer questions daily, so there's always someone around.
You'll have lots of questions in the coming weeks, and you'll find impartial, honest support from us all.
Welcome from me too-hope your path to freedom runs smoothly.
There are a few insomniacs on here-including myself-so feel free to talk anytime !!!!
You have done what we felt was the hardest part-sat down and worked out whats what and accepted you need help.
I dont think any of us realise how much debt we are in til we put pen to paper-ours came to 43,000-I cried and hubby was in a state of shock. We had never had any problem paying everyone each month but due to circumstances-my health-we just could not afford to pay anymore. You just float through life on a bubble and everythings good.
We have never been overly extravagant-a good holiday every year and a nice christmas were our main expenses.Oh and a son that grows an inch a week !!
Dont even try to justify to yourself where the money went-its way to depressing !!
Find yourself a good firm-talk to as many as you feel you need to and go with the one you feel confident in.
The feeling of relief you get when you have discussed it is absolute relief-the old saying a problem shared is a problem halved is very true.
and the day you get the answer-yes you have been accepted-incredible.
full and final accepted January 2015
iva agreed; August 2010
iva would have completed; August 2017
extra year thank's to NRAM
When you are doing your I&E the biggest mistake I made was on what I put down on housekeeper ie food, luckily my IP said my figure was just not possible for a family of four and doubled it.....
Then I actually went and wrote down what I really spent the next week to feed a family of 4 and went OMG, you are right.
Everyone else is easy as you get a real bill but from experience this is the one you could get wrong.
One thing about an IVA is that it truly teaches you money management.
New compulsary GCSE maybe...
Last Payment - November 2011 - Completion Certificate received 2 weeks after last payment, Removed from Insolvency Register within 4 weeks after last payment.
Thanks a lot folks, youre all ever so nice. I spoke this evening to a lady from IVA.com who was lovely and have arranged to speak to Melanie Giles on Thursday to make some sense of everything!!! This site is a great tonic and without being rude it's a great relief to read that we are not the only ones...... Thanks!
True -- we are not the only ones -- wait until the next 12 months have passed --- it's going to get very crowded I fear ! But we are all in good company here. loads of advice and loads of support.
Best of luck.
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.
IVA Completed 23rd July 2013 .... C.C. 10th January 2014

IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.
It's a steep learning curve Ali, but you really are in good hands. Gen up as much as you can and don't be afraid to ask any questions at all (except for the winning lottery numbers -- if I knew them I would be keeping that bit of info to myself ... sorry folks!).

You are going through what many of us found to be the most stressful part of the process - admitting to yourselves that there is a problem, then taking the first brave steps to sort it out.
you have chosen the best team to help you through this. In a few months you will be posting on the forum giving reassurance to others who will be in the same position you are now.
Keep us posted on how things are going and if you have any general questions about the process, there are always friendly people on the forum to answer them for you and provide reassurance. And, of course, if you have any questions specific to your own case, then Mel's team are absolutely brilliant.

Started lump sum IVA in Aug 2010 - received certificate of completion April 2011, thanks to Melanie & team
Welcome alibongo,
Taking that first step is always the most daunting. the next big test is waiting for the meeting that is so stressful as you will probably be getting calls from creditors then, if possible try and change your number if not keep a prepared speech by the phone, stating the company and reference number of your IVA and just pass that on, or you can have some fun with them, refuse to confirm details etc, just remember it is someone in a call centre and no matter what they tell you they cannot influence the outcome of your creditors meeting.
