Yesterday my car devolped a small petrol leak, I noticed it at lunch time and went to the only garage open who do not do petrol leaks it was a large chain.

As my husband is very ill a car is an essential so I phoned the RAC explained the problem and within 30 minues a mechanic was at my home looking to repair the problem he identified the problem, a small hole in a filter. He said he thought he had one at home so he went home found the part and fitted it for no charge. A nice man a really nice man.

I have been with the RAC for many years and I haven' had to call them out very often but when I do they been excellent. The last time was when my dad died and I was driving my mum home from Dorset where he died. The car broke down on the motor way and the guy who came out was excellent took my mum home droped the car off at the garage drove me home and even carried my bags indoors.

That is good Jan.

Been with the AA since 1972, and have to say that I can't fault them either. One night when I broke down the nice man from the AA followed me home to make sure I got there and came in for a cuppa!

I wish I could be more sociable to people. I can remember once we had a new kitchen (with first hubby) and fitters said we're turning the water off now and I said ok. They said maybe you want to fill the kettle up? I said no I'm fine thanks. Only afterwards did I think maybe they wanted a drink and did feel a little guilty. Lots of people who visit me make their own drink as I'm useless at making them! x

You'd hate our plumbers! Both of them love a drink and will tell you if they think they need one!

First thing we do is to always offer people a drink.

Great service from the RAC, been with them for 5 years and so far (touchwood) haven't needed to call them out as yet, hopefully won't need to.

On the subject of great customer serice, thought i would share an experience i had a couple of weeks ago, my Iphone broke my one and only luxury was gutted, called O2 they wouldn't allow me to upgrade early but offered me a Nokia something free until my upgrade was available. So luckily i have 2 Apple stores nearby so popped to the one, booked an appointment just to confirm my Iphone was definitley broke, popped in the guy had a look, told me that my iphone was out of warranty about 5 months, he went off to check something came back told me i had more bad news he was unable to transfer my numbers and apps to my new phone, new phone?? Apple swapped it over there and then, thats amazing service and was well above what i expected.

The RAC patrols are brilliant and I can't fault them, but I find their customer service leaves a lot to be desired - they threatened to charge me as I called them out so often (in their opinion) at one point!

They also threatened to charge me to tow my car home (even though I was a full member) when I had an accident. They backed down when I went into one at them though.

As I said I've never had a problem with the patrols, they have always been really good and sorted the problem out.

I was a member of the RAC once when I had a little Fiat 126 (came as part of the package). I called them out on Christmas Eve to an isolated car park. They had to pass where I worked but refused to pick me up so I had to wait with the car. This was in the days before mobile phones.

Two hours later I went back into work and called again to be told that the patrol had been and I wasn't there! I had a bit of a rant at them and they eventually came out and sorted me out.

I have to say that I prefer the AA.

Im with the AA n our car broke down at hubbys work in the late hours of the evening.
I went back the next day n phoned AA. We did have a 2.5 hour wait but they did keep me updated. They got us up n running n gave me a diagnoses of dead battery. Got it to my local garage n it was just that.
I had a chat with the AA engineer whom was local n they did state they are very over run at the time & a women was left for 6 hours the previous day.
Final IVA payment made in April 2013, never ever thought we could do it or get through it but we did! X

I remember a few years ago my mum broke down on her own. She called the RAC, and my uncle and I who both said we'd go out to her. We got there just before the patrol man arrived and mum was worried as she'd told them she was a woman on her own. My uncle is a bit of a joker (to say the least!) and when the patrol man arrived he said 'The wife and I were passing on the way to a party weren't we darling? We thought we'd better stop and make sure she was ok.' I was struggling to keep a straight face, mum looked as though she wanted to kill him (and me for going along with it!) and the patrol man just looked bemused!

I broke down on the motorway once and walked to the emergency phone and reported it. Imagine my surprise, as I made my way back to the car to see an AA patrol pull up behind my car! When I got there, it turns out that he knew nothing about my breakdown but business must have been slack and he was obviously touting for trade!

He got me fixed though!
